Paris Mayor to Ban Diesels in City and Proposes Other Measures...
to reduce the serious smog in the City of Light. Including reducing tour buses and making areas off limits to private vehicles. Well it's about time!

He'll end up doing what they have done in London.
Madrid has already started restricting diesels by raising the cost of parking for diesel powered cars. Commercial delivery trucks are not included.
"reducing tour buses" sounds good to me! They need to get out for some excerise instead of being cramped up in a bus. Take a walk about and enjoy the city.

Mayor Hidalgo has just expressed what she would like to be able to do. But she is a realist.
However, I am pretty sure that she will manage to make most of arrondissement 1-4 mostly pedestrian. A few large boulevards will continue to traverse them, but most cars have no business being there.
One interesting thing that is happening in Paris is that more and more of the supermarkets are having their stock delivered on barges on the Seine rather than by hundreds of trucks.

How do they get from the dock on the Seine to the supermarket? They don't use Rungis (not on the Seine) for their fresh meat and vegetables?

Obviously they use Rungis for the fresh stuff. But just imagine all of those packs of water bottles, wine and Coca-Cola (not to mention the dry goods and tinned products). One of the chains is using electric vehicles for the final portion of the trip.

Which is? Boris has mumbled various things over the past few years - scrappage schemes, additional Congestion Charge for diesels - but very little has actually been done. And the chances of replacing all the buses in London in under 20 years is pretty low.
PS the Mayor of Paris is female

And Putin will be coming out of the closet soon!
It's all irrelevant to the pollution caused by diesel engines, clean diesels or not. How many of you out there remember London when coal was the main source of heat? Buildings in Whitehall were covered in black soot.

The Mayor of London was born in America but having left at the age of 5, he has little attachment to the USA.>
Little or none - he said it is too cumbersome to give up his American citizenship.

Yes, and that is beacause it requires several interviews at the Embassy and will cost $2350 (recently raised from $450).
