Anthony,
I'm a big fan of Le Pamphlet, anid in that same Southwestern Basque-Béarn vein, I highly enthusiastically second Gretchen's rec of Auberge de Jarente. In fact we dined there because we had confused our reservations for Le Pamphlet,. We arrived on a night when it was closed, and thankfully I had brought with me Gretchen's rec. Still longing for a Basque-Béarn meal, we headed straight to the A de C, and we were amazed by the high quality for such a low price and the warm welcome of the owner. A winner. Thanks again, Gretchen!

MaisonMetz, Maribel, Gretchen, et al:
Thanks again! I will bring your recommendations with us.
I retired on July 1 and this October visit to Paris and the Caron de Beaumarchais will be our first since then.
Retirement after 34 years at the anvil is wonderful.
Best to you all.
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
Congratuations on your retirement! I just retired as well after 32 yrs.,at the chalkboard, and isn't life grand!
What a wonderful way to celebrate with an October trip to Paris.
I posted this on the Paris restaurant redux thread and thought you might be interested, if you haven't already dined there:
"Just read on the France board of tripadvisor that Le Pamphlet had a flood from broken pipes and won't reopen until Nov. but....
I also just discovered that Le Pamphlet has opened an annex. Le Petit Pamphlet. Apparently, the intention of chef Carrere was to offer a place with relaxed atmosphere and gentle prices. His menu here features the cuisine of Languedoc-Roussillon and Catalunya and consists of 5 starters, 4 main courses and 5 desserts that change according to market and season. The wine list has bottles for around 20 €, again, mostly from the Languedoc-Roussillon.
Sample dishes:
lieu jaune meuniere (pollack) with mashed potatoes, capers, sun-dried tomatoes and tiny cubes of tuna
risotto of squid in ts own ink with garlic and parsley
rice pudding
crème brûlée
At 15 rue St. Gilles
Closes Sat. lunch, Sun., Mon. lunch
Phone: (33) 1 4271 2221
Putting this on the top of my list"
And ccongrats again!

Maribel, Thanks! Sorry to learn about Le Pamphlet.
The proprietor of the Caron de Beaumarchais originally recommended Le Pamphlet. We will use your and his latest "finds" for our dining outings.
Retirement is wonderful. I have dropped 11 pounds walking a few miles per day in Hudson River Park, a lovely place. To be free after a total of 51 years at work is exhilirating to say the least. It must be similar to the pleasure of no longer having to flog sophomores!
Best.

Celticmoon, the restaurant you are talking about is the Cafe des Musees at the corner of Rue de Turenne.
I hate to give the name of this online for fear that it will be "discovered" by the Rick Steves crowd, but the food is great traditional food, and the atmosphere is very "neighborhood."
They do a huge lunch business, and once crowded in so many table that they kept having to lift our table up to let the people behind us out! Not a problem.
Be aware that the prices chalked on the menu board are for eating standing up at the bar. They are higher sitting down but still very reasonable.
