Paris location for business and pleasure
I need help finding a Paris hotel which is convenient to get to the Paris Rive Gauche Hotel and Conference Center (17 Blvd. St. Jacques, 14 arrondissement).
We really don't want to stay there (it's a Marriott -- basic business hotel) but my husband's meeting is being held there. We would prefer a location with a little more charm, where we can walk around to shops and restaurants, and he can still hop on a metro and get to the meeting easily. (the conference center is next to the Glaciere metro station).
We have been to Paris before, but still find the metro/bus system a little overwhelming, so ease of transportation is a must (not a lot of metro line changes).
Any suggesions for how we can turn a business meeting into a pleasure trip?

That Marriott is very close to the very Parisian food street Rue Daguerre. Glaciere is on Metro Line 6, so it sounds like you want a hotel that is close to Metro Line 6.
If you've been to Paris before, what locations did you enjoy? You could go a bit further north from the hotel into Montparnasse, and be in a charming, historic area. You could be near the Edgar Quinet or Raspail metro station (both on Line 6), and the commute would be very short. What is your budget? When are you going?
I don't mean to intrude, so disregard the following if inappropriate. If it were me going to the meeting, I'd prefer the conference hotel, particularly if the meetings go all day. It's just easier to attend these events if you don't have to commute, particularly if you have to take your laptop with you.

I would stay at the hotel, too, because it saves a lot of time that can be spent better elsewhere. The only thing that might make me go elsewhere would be if there were other attendees that I wanted to be sure to avoid as much as possible.
Otherwise, stay in Montparnasse or at Denfert-Rochereau.

We really have no budget constraints, (although George V is a bit much!). The idea was that my husband would attend part of the meeting each day (maybe a couple of hours) and HE would be the one to "commute" from our hotel. I, meanwhile, would be able to walk around and enjoy myself without having to navigate the metro system (ok, I am a little pampered, but I ALWAYS get lost, and he never does)!
We have stayed on right and left banks, and prefer the smaller charm of the left bank.
At night, it will be easier to walk to a restaurant and enjoy the street scene if it's right out our door.

Some parts of montparnasse are quite scenic and relaxing. you could get a location near the parc Montsouris which is quite a nice area. I spotted a holiday apartment by the Glaciere metro which you might be interested in as its got a lot more class (and balcony/internet for DH): http://www.way2stay.com/Paris-apartm...n-109-1386.htm
You will likely have to take public transport to get around paris, unless your budget will stretch for taxis..

Hi C,
We always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 128E dbl w/bkfst. It is located near 3 metro stops. Has AC and an elevator.

It is a straight shot on the no. 4 Metro line to the conference.

That's what I thought when I looked at the metro map. It would be great to have ONE line that would take DH to and from the conference center. If I'm going to stay close to the conference, I might as well just stay at the Marriott. I was hoping for a more interesting location for cafes, etc. to stay in, but convenient transportation to the conference. And at least a 3-star or better; we're already going for broke on this trip with the dollar-to-euro conversion!!!

Hi Will,
>I don't see Line 4 as being a straight shot to the conference. The nearest stop on Line 4 would be Denfert-Rochereau, but then you'd have to either walk ...<
www.ratp.fr suggests taking the no. 4 from St. Sulpice to D-R and walking for 5 min.
Sorry if that's inconvenient.

Mappy.com says that it's more than 1 km between the Denfert-Rochereau and Glaciere metro stations so more like a 12 minute walk. That's not that big a deal, of course, and it would open up the possibility of any hotel on Line 4.

On the shuttle into Paris from CDG in June, we stopped to drop off a couple at the Hotel Abbaye, which looked very charming. I have since looked up the hotel and bookmarked it for my next trip: www.hotelabbayeparis.com. It is at 10 Rue Cassette in the 6th. The ratp.fr site suggests taking line 4 to St. Suplice from the conference hotel, then walking 4 minutes to this hotel. Just a thought...
