Paris Itinerary & Last Minute Suggestions

Hi,

I am going to Paris this upcomming September and have enthusiastically spent hours on researching and planning my week there. No site has been more helpful than the Fodor forums. I have researched many hotels and decided I want to stay in the 5th or 6th and needed a hotel under 100 Euro for 2 ppl. I wanted to stay at the Hotel Bonaparte (after reading all of Ira's and company's loyal and helpful reviews) but it was a little out of my budget. I have found two hotels I really like in the 5th. It is between The Port-Royal and L'Esperance. I have some idea of what I want to do (thanks to all you guys), but had a few more questions if you could help me out:

1. Feedback on Port-Royal vs. L'Esperance?
2. Must see museums
3. Great cafes in the 5th...
4. Can I go to services at the Notre Dame? Do you recommend anywhere else instead of that or in addition to that?
5. In general, how safe is Paris at night in the Latin Quarter area?

I think that is all. I hate to ask more hotel questions or anything that is covered elsewhere, but I haven't found this info yet. I would really appreciate. Thanks!!!

If you click on my screen name above, you will find my trip report of London-Paris-Amsterdam last month. In it you will find specific recommendations for a hotel in the 7th, plus restaurants and activities.

We did not attend, but this is the info. I have re: services at Notre Dame: Sunday Masses: 8:30 am; 10:00 am (Gregorian chant); 11:30 am (choir); 12:45 am (cantor); 6:30 pm (choir)

Have you ever been to Paris? If not, you must see the Louvre. Besides the amazing art, the building itself is beautiful inside and out.

Also, per my report, I'd suggest the Batobus hop-on-hop-off. It's reasonably priced at 13 EU for two days unlimited use. It's a pleasant way to get from point A to point B. Don't miss a nighttime cruise on it, for sure. I think it runs till 22:00 or 22:30.

Bon Voyage. You will love Paris.

You can go to services at ND, however, it is very crowded unless you go to the early service around 8, so get there early. Vespers (and Matins) is sung by nuns at the Sacre Couer and is wonderful.

Carolyne - Both hotels seem to get OK reviews on tripadvisor. Ira gave you the link to some other budget hotels. You might want to check out Hotel Monge out of his list. I believe it has air conditioning and you might want to have that during September.

Have fun in Paris - it's one of my favorite places.
