In the 8th, the Michelin Guide lists the Carpaccio, Il Sardo, and Stresa.

If you'll go a little further afield, quite near the St.-Germain-des-Prés métro station is Vesuvius, an unpretentious little restaurant with excellent every-day Italian food, including yummy pizzas, as well as standard French menu items. It's very moderately priced.

Over the last three weeks, I've eaten at 2 Italian restaurants in Paris. The first was Lei, a new place, on 15 (or 17) Ave de La Motte Piquet in the 7th. Very good food, very modern. The other was Il Convivium, on the Place Victor Hugo, in the 16th. VERY popular. I liked Lei a lot. Il Convivium had good food, but it's more Sicilian (with some northern Italian dishes like risotto). Lei is more Tuscan. Good beef. Lei also seemed to have better wine selections.

Angelo, 3 or 5 rue Buffon, 5th, just outside the Jardin des Plantes (a beautiful garden to wander through). simple good food, I took the 12.50 EUR lunch formule, which consisted of a great salad, very tasty raviolli and a bottle of Evian. I used my basic French and it was fine, I don't know if they speak English. Very nice service. I'll be back to that place when I'm in Paris in 3 months time.

I would suggest "Pizza Sicilia" located in the 1st Arr, 26 Rue de Beaujolais (Metro: Palais-Royal) @ corner of Montpensier and Beaujolais. This is one of the most authentic Italian restaurants I have found in Paris that offers all types of pizza, lasagna, ravioli, etc. just like it tastes in Italy. They serve the most wonderful food at low prices -- try their famous and delicious tortellini aux champignons (tortellini with mushrooms in a cream sauce) just under 10 euros!

We like to eat at Pizza Vesuvio 1/2 block off Champs Elysee at 25 r Quentin Bauchart (there's a Societe Generale on the corner, and it's near M: Georges V.)

There's another Vesuvio on the C/E which we haven't tried for comparison, just like going to the other one. We usually want to eat a little early if we have flown in that day, and it's casual enough to feel ok going in around 6:30-7:00. We've eaten pasta, pizza (watch out for that egg!), and steak dinners. The house 'pichet' is a little thin, so you might want to order a glass or bottle. Our dinner check is usually around $30-35.

Sorry, I'm not sure where the madeleine are is but my husband and I ate at a lovely, small and authentic restaurant in the 6th I believe...it's called La Locanda Ristorante. The address is 8, Rue de Dragon. We had a very lovely meal.

We loved this tiny restaurant so much we cancelled our "biggie" reservation our last night and returned to Ponte Vecchio. It's on the river right across from Notre Dame. Ask for a window table and you're looking out on the night-lit cathedral. It's lovely.

We had a fabulous aubergine appetizer and found the veal piccata the best main course. We had appertifs, 2 bottles of great Italian wine, dessert and brandies...and our bill was still less than 100 euros.

Best of all, after dinner all you have to do is stroll over the bridge for a late walk through the Iles. What could be better?! (If you're planning a sunset cruise one night, this restaurant is very near the embarking place for the boats...almost directly across from Pont Archeveche.)

Il Cortile, 37 rue Cambon, in the Hotel Sofitel Castille, has one star from Michelin and is one of super-chef Alain Ducasse's restaurants.
Closed Saturdays and Sundays.

we were looking forward to a dinner at Ponte Vecchio, after 2 weeks of French goodies...alas, we chose the night they were closed!

We still have it on our list for this fall.


Monte Cristo on Ile de St'Louis is no longer ..it is still there and under the same name..but it ain't what it used to be!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep it on your list...it's worth every euro. Now, keep in mind that...heresy!...we weren't that impressed with French cuisine. Yes, it was good...but not superb. We travelled all over France and only one meal was better than ours at Ponte Vecchio. (The better meal wasn't French either...it was lobster in Brittany.)

Now, the French wines...they were impressive!
