Paris Hotels - Hotel Luxembourg Parc, Hotel de l'Abbaye and Relais St. Germain des Pres
I am trying to decide between these three hotels for a trip with my mother. I stayed at the Relais St. Germain des Pres in March 2001 and really liked it but read recent negative reviews on the rants and raves. I wonder whether management has changed. Also read great things about Hotel de L'Abbaye but sounds like the rooms there are even smaller than the average Paris room and their are two of us so wondering whether it will be too cramped. Hotel Luxembourg Parc (42 rue de Vaugirard) looks great. Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? I have read scathing reviews on this sight but I have seem many scathing reviews on this sight of a hotel by a similar name on same street at #4 (not 42).
Let me know what you think or if you have other suggestions for a hotel of similar quality in the 6e for $200 or under a night.

We are booked at Luxembourg Parc in October. We also had reservations at the other Luxembourg, made by mistake by our travel agent. When we found out we booked via internet at L. Parc. I have had numerous conversations with the Parc via e-mail after reading about it in Travel and Leisure and on this website. The hotel is very responsive to any e-mail questions, sometimes responding within an hour. It is relatively new (little over a year) and was named as one of those best little secrets in Travel and Leisure. I'll post a full review here when we return from Paris.

Sally& Mark, The Luxembourg Parc is a very nice 4 star hotel. My husband and I were in Paris in May and saw the hotel and some of the rooms. I don't think you'll be disappointed! Beautiful rooms and a good location. Hotel de L'Abbaye is a nice 3 star hotel, and is very popular. We have friends who have stayed there and loved it. Have a wonderful time!!

In 1999, my just-graduated daughter and I stayed at Hotel L'Abbaye. The room, although not huge was definitely comfortable, the bathroom was large, and the staff was wonderful. Croissants and delicious coffee for breakfast on the terrace, and close to metro stop. In fact, plan to stay there next May when my husband and I go to Paris.

I haven't actually stayed at the hotel, but I happened to pass by it the week it opened (and posted info about here on Fodors) and had a look at the salon and a couple of the rooms. The staff were very helpful and the rooms seemed quite comfortable. Don't look for huge rooms, it's Paris after all, but the hotel looks like a pleasant, well-run establishment. I've taken a couple of peeks back inside on more recent trips to Paris and I haven't noted any problems. The guests in the salon looked pretty happy.
BTilke (Brussels)

There has been a ton written on this subject. Search the board. I just when through a process of choosing a hotel in the 6th. It's so confusing.

Here is my take on the subject. Lots of nice hotels, hard to make a wrong choice. The hotels that people like the best seem to be Hotel d'Abbaye and Millésime Hôtel. The latter seems to be the safest bet by far, I did not read one bad comment on it and the reviews on this site are amazing. We went with d'AngleTerre and asked for a court yard room. I fell for the charm and history and people do have great things to say about it.

Another note, is it seems that all the rooms are on the small side, so perhaps you want to spring for the extra 20 bucks to get a deluxe room. It's worth it don't you think? Millésime bigger rooms are 185 euros.

Good luck.

Beth
