Hi all,

I am searching for a hotel for a honeymoon in Paris next August. We'd like something centrally located with air conditioning, and we'd like to spend no more than $230/night. I am very interested in these:
Hotel Grands Hommes (90E per night for a "superior room&quot
Hotel du Pantheon (86E per night for a "standard room&quot
Villa d'Estrees (205E per night).
Those prices are all from the hotel websites, and the first two include taxes, but i'm not sure about the third one. Villa d'Estrees comes highly recommended from a friend, but i'm not sure it's worth paying double? Also, does anyone have any feedback on the size of the rooms in Grands Hommes and Pantheon? I've heard the Grands Hommes rooms are pretty small?

What about this "vinaigrette" - http://www.hotel-paris-familia.com. You can get a room with a balcony. This is not common in Paris - well not at these rates anyway. Some look onto Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral. It includes breakfast too. Near my favourite part of Paris - Ile Saint Louis.

If you want to stay in the Latin Quarter, I suggest the Relais Saint Jacques. I stayed there in July in a Pantheon view room (Prestige deluxe). They have internet specials to match your budget. The hotel is on a quiet side street and it's located next to a popular restaurant, Le Mauzac. It's a few blocks down to the Seine and even closer to the Luxembourg Gardens and the Pantheon. The staff was very helpful and the hotel is accurately pictured on their website.

I realize you're going in August. Hotels have good discounts during summer months and I got a very low rate at the Relais Saint Jacques.

Hi jenaug2006, no problem. I actually sent an email request to the hotel. I received the discount rate they show on their site under 'Promotion' http://www.paris-hotel-saintjacques....promotion.html

My room cost 140 euro so it was a good discount.

If you want to see photos of my room (#403) I posted a review on Trip Advisor dated July 25, 2005. I complained about a housekeeper who opened my door while I was in the room so she could fill the minibar. I wasn't pleased that she did this and wrote to the manager who addressed the problem with the staff. Therefore, it should not occur anymore.

Sorry I keep forgetting things. The promotional rate included an American buffet breakfast so I thought it was a very nice deal. I read that the standard rooms are pretty small (typical) so go for a Prestige or higher category if possible.

You have a while before your trip to decide but I really liked this hotel as you can tell. No, I don't get any kickbacks from them. I have another favorite hotel on Ile St. Louis that I and another Fodorite recommend alot. And, no, unfortunately we don't get any kickbacks from that hotel as well.

actually, if i can ask you another question...i'm not necessarily tied to that specific area (5th/6th). we just want to be very centrally located, and that area seems to have a lot of hotels in our budget. is there somewhere else i should be looking too? thanks!

Generally the 5th district has the most concentration of reasonable, centrally located hotels. You chose the 6th district as well. That district has some reasonable priced hotels as well but not as much as in the 5th as the 6th is a more upscale district.

If you want to know my other favorite hotel that's on Ile St. Louis (can't get any nore central than this) it's the Hotel de Lutece (4th district). It's a simple hotel though but very nice. Rates are 164 euro/double right now but next year the rate will increase to 170 euro. We had a 5th floor room that was very comfortable. Double bed was two twins pushed together fyi. The hotel has a/c and its sister hotel up the road is Hotel des Deux Iles, another popular place.

We always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. About 124E dbl w/bkfst. Their "best" rooms are about 150E.

A fabulous little hotel in a perfect location is the Relais Hotel du Vieux Paris. It's at 9 rue Git-le-Coeur, on the left bank, just off the Seine, between Pont Neuf and Pont St. Michel, and a 1 minute walk to the St. Michel metro. This hotel is about 500 years old, and is the old "Beat Hotel" from the 50's and 60's (seriously upgraded!). The service is excellent and very personable. Unless you get the "suites" the rooms are a bit small, but have wood beams from the original structure. The place reeks history!

I haven't stayed at any of those, but would generally always choose a superior room over a standard, given the choice at about the same rate.

Lots of hotels do have lower rates in August (some beginning in July), because summer is lower hotel occupancy due to fewer business clients. This is standard in their seasonal rate structure, so you do not have to do anything special to get those rates and should have no qualms about asking a hotel specifically if they have lower rates in August when you make your request.
