Paris hotels
Hi,
This will be my first trip to Paris, and I'm not sure which hotel to stay in. There are a couple of hotels I am considering - the Hotel Wilson, Hotel Blanche, and Waldorf Montparnasse. Has anyone stayed at any of these? I realize they are not top rated hotels, but on average are they satisfactory? Are there any hotels in the U.S. that you could compare them to?
My other question is has anyone stayed at any of the Timhotel's?
Thanks

Here is a list of sites where you should be able to check out any of the hotels you are considering, and many that you are not.

The Waldorf is very conveniently located, much more so than the other two. I don't think the Wilson is actually in the city of Paris. Hotel Blanche may or may not be in a seedy area, but it would be less convenient. Reviews of the Waldorf are good too. From the Waldorf, you would have easy access to four metro lines, plus numerous buses.

Hi all, and thanks for your help. Anyone else that has anything to add. please do so.
Tomc, I don't want to stay in a motel 6 type of place, but can't afford the Ritz either. I was wondering if any of the hotels I mentioned could compare to any U.S. chains that I might be familiar with.
Robert12533, Thanks for the website addresses. I will definitely check them out.
WillTravel, You said the Blanche may or may not be in a seedy area. It is located at 69 Rue Blanche in the 9th arrondissment. Does anyone know if this is a seedy area? Also, what are the seedy areas of Paris? I would like to know ahead of time so I can be more cautious while I am there.
Thanks

Hi
What led you to your hotel choices?
Are they being offered in a package, or did you come upon them on your own?
I ask, because they don't offer show up here for discussion (not that it's a reason not to choose them) and there are SO many nice little budget-minded hotels in Paris that there is lots of feedback on, either here, or at www.tripadvisor.com (have you checked these there?)
The range between a 'motel 6' and the Ritz is huge, most of Paris's hotels fall into that category.
If you could say what you are looking for in a hotel, price, amentities, etc perhaps other suggestions could be made.
I have a long file on Paris; if you'd like to see it, email me at

Hi,
Yes I guess it would be helpful for you to know what I am looking for. Unfortunately at this point I'm not exactly sure. It would be great if I could find something under $100/night. I would like to stay in the 6th or 7th arrondissment. Is it possible to stay in a hotel in either of these areas for that price. I mentioned the Blanche because it is the hotel in the go-today package, but I couldn't find any information about it on this site. I checked the Paris yellow pages, and th number they listed for this hotel gave me a recording saying "this number is not in service." I read about the waldorf montparnasse in one of the guide books and it sounded nice, but I didn't have any rate information in the book.
I guess what I am trying to say is if I could stay in a lower priced hotel that is safe, conveniently located to a metro and most attractions, clean, and nicely decorated with a private bath then I would rather spend less on the hotel and have more to spend on restuarants, shopping, and attractions.
So please, Paris experts, advise me.
Thanks

Take a look at www.parisby.com. The site will allow you to select areas and "star" level. If you want to stay in the 6th or 7th, click on A6 or A7 and 2 star to see what might fit your budget. Here's one example that looks like a good choice:

I've stayed at the Waldorf Montparnasse, and it is fine. Nothing fancy at all - but clean and friendly. Hard to compare to an american hotel, but it has mini bar, toiletries and free bottled water. The location is really good. Easy walk to the Latin Quarter and the Seine, and literally steps from the metro. If you're looking for luxury, this isn't it, but it was fine.

In the same area than the Waldorf Montparnasse, there is the Best Western Bretagne Montparnasse, a 3 star hotel but doing regularly special rates...Have a look at this hotel, it is really well located, the area of Montparnasse have a lot of advanctages in terms of shopping, bars, restaurants, metro stations...You can look at : www.bwbretagne-montparnasse.com. Have a great trip!
