We are a family of 5 and looking for a nice hotel for 2 nights. I know we will probably need 2 rooms...stayed near St. Germain last time in Paris and didn't love it..any ideas?

Maybe explain what it was that you "didn't love" about St Germain...to help posters recommend another area.

What's your price range? When will you be in Paris? If it's in the summer months you will probably want a hotel with a/c, which makes a price difference.

We did not think there were many cafes in the St. Germain area.
Since there are 5 of us I assume we will need 2 rooms...I hate to spend much more than $200/rm per night...is that feasible to stay somewhere nice?

Yes, it is very possible to get a nice room for $200 per room per night, even though I guess you need a double and triple, no problem. Most 3 stars will be in that range (and often less, I've never spent tha tmuch myself, but I don't stay in the most expensive areas).

I think you'd better clarify a little more what you want for someone to help. For one thing, I think you must be making a mistake about where you were before if you didn't like it because of no cafes. Also, do you mean literally no cafes, no places to have a cup of coffee? or do you want more larger, grander cafes for dinner? Maybe you should say exactly where you were because St Germain has many cafes on every block, just about, so I imagine you weren't in st Germain. I know you said ?near? but exactly where was it? you could like St Germain very well. There are always pockets of any quarter that are less convenient than others, though, which is why checking a map as to where your hotel is can be important, espec. regarding metro.

I notice you said you stayed near St. Germain. What street is this?

Because the St. Germain I know has many cafes.

Near or in St. Germaine...can't imagine anyone saying that they didn't care for the area or could not find restaurants there. St. Germaine is one of the most desireable areas for what is there and for the convenience to so very much...maybe you were really not in or that near St. Germaine!

Try the Hotel Muguet--about $100/night for a double. They have at least one triple. Squeaky clean, newly renovated.
