The Bonaparte is about 150ft from the Place St Sulpice --- a great location, just not right on the Place.

Hi margot,

I didn't recommend the Bonaparte directly, because I've said enough about it to be considered a "tout".

Re charging a deposit: This is not unusual, many small hotels do it to cover the possibility of a "no show".

For our upcoming visit to New England, I have had to give a full night's charge as deposits to all of our hotels.

As I mentioned before prepaying is an option that some don't mind doing. Also many small hotels accept credit card numbers to guarantee their rooms. If there is a no show the hotel charges your card.
