My daughter's family,--4-1/2 year old boy, and 1 year old daughter + husband, will be leaving for Paris tomorrow arriving on Wed.and then on Friday fly to Cannes. What should they expect as far as weather and sightseeing goes?

Looks like it'll be in the 90's to 100's.

Don't know what kind of weather they should expect in Paris, but I do know that Paris has a new sandy summer beach until August 17th in case the heat makes them want to hit the beach.

huh ... they can call that thing whatever they want, but it's no beach because there is no ocean. It's an excuse for folks to lay around in a quasi-public park with little clothes on to get a tan. It's like calling a sandbox a beach.

Well, if this "beach" is in its second year, it must be popular with Parisians.

PARIS - A heat wave smothering parts of Europe forced French authorities to spray down the walls of a nuclear reactor with water and led British rail operators to halt some trains for fear the tracks would buckle.
Much of France has been sweltering for weeks, with temperatures reaching 106 in southwestern Bordeaux on June 21 and then again on Monday in Castelsarrazin in southwest France. But the worst may be yet to come.

It's been one of Europe's worst heat waves and dry spells in years. Authorities on the Iberian peninsula scrambled to put out stubborn, deadly forest fires, but officials said the worst could be yet to come.

"The coming days could approach or beat this maximum," said Dominique Escale of Meteo France, the French national weather service. "This is a very, very hot summer."

Am in Paris as we speak. Saw the "sandy beach" yesterday. I'm not here to burst anybody's bubble, but the sandy beach is literally a "sand box." And anyone who thinks they will beat the heat there is tres wrong. Think lying on a towell next to the canal in Phoenix, AZ. I'm not knocking it, I'm just telling you what it is. I saw it with my own eyes yesterday.

Thanks for all the information. I kind of warned them about the heat, but the trip was planned. Oh, I told them about the beach. Maybe they'll walk over there and have a good laugh.

Why should they have a laugh at the Paris beach?
I saw pictures of it last night at a French TV channel and I tell you, it looks good and inviting, but it was also terribly crowded and the sun is the same as anywhere else. There is sand, lots of deck chairs, showers, etc.
A great idea, that's for sure.
The Parisians seem to enjoy it a lot!

No air conditioning and no one uses deoderant. Hot and pungent.

We just spent 3 days in Nice last weekend and it was too hot to do anything except lie on the beach.
