One of things she definitely should do is visit rue Oberkampf in the 11th arrondissement, a very trendy night venue for youngsters. Ground zero of young Paris cool, or it least it was just a few years ago. There is music at the Cithea, and Cafe Charbon, where the whole large scene started is across the street. As a pre-graduation present, I'd suggest one of the Paris guidebooks written by young people for young people. The Time Out guide to Paris is the best one I know.
