Paris Garnier seating
We'll be in Paris for New Year's Eve and are thinking of going to the Garnier for the concert that night. There are some box seats available, but it is hard to tell if the seats are in the front row of the box, or the second, and if they are in the second row, if the seats are elevated. There is a very basic seating chart which is not really detailed, and a little picture of the view, but it is a view from the box, not the seat.
If anyone has any experience with the seating at Garnier, would be very grateful to hear from them, and to hear any other Garnier tips. Thank you in advance, Malka

I should have specifically said that the seats are in a box, and numbered 3 and 4, and there is a note that they are not next to each other. So we are wondering where they are in the box, and how many seats are in the first row of a box there?
Thank you again, Malka

hmmm. I don't know about seats 3 and 4 not being next to each other, not sure what that could mean. I've had seats in Garnier loge boxes twice, and they were the same. They had six seats--three "rows" of two seats each. The second row (seats 3-4) was slightly higher than the first row (seats 1-2), as I recall (either raked, or the chairs were higher), but if you were in the rear, seats 5-6, you couldn't see much at all and those are bad seats. The first row is best, of course, and the second so-so, especially depending who was in front of you. I would never book seats 5-6 in those boxes. These boxes are called "loge" seats by Garnier and are pretty expensive. The ones I was in were near the center of that loge section, facing the center of the stage, basically. I think that section of the threater has loge boxes all the way around and numbers 29-35 are good loge numbers as they are in the center.
They have some boxes right on the side near the stage that are at an angle which aren't good seats, but I haven't been in them.
Maybe someone recognizes more what you may be referring to. Maybe the boxes on the side have three seats in each row, so 3-4 wouldn't be next to each other, I don't know. Where is this box in reference to the stage?

It is a side box, number 18, and the seats are 3 and 4. The notice says "There are no seats placed next to each other for the choice you have made" which may mean that there are seats 123 in the first row, and 456 in the second? However, why then would the presumed first row seat 3 be the same price as the second row seat 4?
(I realize that while I am trying to figure it out, the seats may be sold!)

Thank you Christina for your info about the box and particularly about the third row seats of the box not being good. I wouldn't have imagined them to be good, but wasn't sure about the possible elevation of the seats and what that might accomplish.
Wish there were some way to figure out if seat 3 is in front row though.

It is a problem figuring these things out because Garnier doesn't have a detailed seating chart onlne. I wish they would, don't know why they can't just scan it in like other venues do. They have one because they use it at the box office.
Box 18 is much farther around on the side than I've been in, so I expect it must be that the first row is seats 1-3 and the second row 4-6 probably, or something like that. If you have seats 3-4, and they aren't next to each other, I think seat 3 would have to be in the front row (they would not have just one seat in the first row, then 2-3, etc). You would expect the seats in the back to be slightly less expensive, but they may not have such a fine variation on those seats that the price breaks just in the second row. They may not have that different visibility so to them, it's just like two rows in the orchestra wouldn't have different prices. I'm not sure, but I think the very rear seats in the loge boxes with 6 seats do have lower prices, but seats 1-4 may not, even though 3-4 are worse views than 1-2.

Thank you all for your input, I have just gone ahead and bought seats. They are way on the side, a different second tier box, and the seats are 1 and 2. The note was again that they are not next to each other. However, the website states that the best available seats are automatically offered first, and seat 3 was available, but when I requested 6 seats (to see what was available) seats 1 and 2 were offered first, and then 1 and 2 from another box, and then seat 3. Seat 4 was not offered, but was offered in another box after 1 2 and 3 were gone. It is a bit of a mystery, and now a guessing game, strange since makes sense that we would want to know a bit more about what we are purchasing...
