A few months ago I read a newspaper article that said the ferris wheel was being removed. It was put there only as a temporary structure, I think as part of the millennium celebration.

Huh, BCBG=bon chic, bon genre, also written as bon-chic bon-genre and once in a great while, I see bon chic, bon gens. Means French yuppies, usually from the 16th or better parts of the 17th arrond of Paris or some of the more upmarket burbs. Originally a compliment for people with style and good taste, now *sometimes* a put down (by the avant garde set).
Not to be confused with CBGB, the punk NY nightclub favored by Blondie and the Talking Heads ;-)

Kris wrote: "But I do hope that those awful pointy-toed women's shoes in all the stores in Paris, and on some of the women, don't become popular in this country."

Oh! How could I forget to mention those shoes??? They were just fascinatingly, amazingly awful, lethal looking. Perhaps good for thwarting pickpockets on the Metro? I saw a pair in camouflage! The shoe ended up being about 14 inches long. I was wondering if it would take long to get used to them, what with your foot now ending about six inches from where you think it ends.
