It's a balmy 85 degrees here, the sun is shining brightly, the trade winds are perfect, and the ocean is crystal clear.

I wouldn't mind a little change of scenery since it's holiday time, but I could only deal with that mass amount of white stuff if I were in front of a cozy fire sipping a warm brandy. If I have to commute in it, all bets are off.

Stay safe all of you who are traveling in the snow. By the way, I love Paris too!

Seems sometimes like the most disillusioning thing you can do is think that you "know" a place before going. Fantasy is a hard thing to prove and is prone to shatter.

For those who are at all bothered by negative reports of places they love, consider that the reporter really did have a disappointing time. It really didn't live up to expectations and they really do wish they'd spent their time and money somewhere else. It's very possible that they'd not felt this way if they'd went in with expectations that didn't derive from movies and all-positive accounts written around on the internet. Then again, maybe they just saw what they wanted to during their research and when so many experienced others chide the negative side, it would seem reasonable enough to consider discounting that view.

Oh - and it rained most of the morning yesterday here in Memphis, TN, as the temps dropped rapidly below freezing. Then at noon, it switched to sleet and hammered down almost non-stop until 9pm. 7 hours of sleet left like 2 inches of solid ice on everything. Man, we're supposed to drive 300 miles to St. Louis tomorrow. Haven't had Christmas at home for awhile now, but we'll see.

<<Rex, care to explain why you felt it necessary to mention me in the title of your post?>>

I chose three of the more "well-known" posts that mentioned being disillusioned with Paris; they all received a lot of replies.

Did you look at

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1377338

("I'm going to get clobbered for this, but about Paris...&quot

??

Is this from some "other" Margie than you? (it was before name registration)

And as elaine pointed out, I missed

<<the 'Paris is a dump' thread

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...453527>>

As to why I posted this, the real point was the news story - - ("Paris is the City of Blight for culture-shocked Japanese: report&quot - - which is a serious subject: an increased incidence of depression and suicide among disillusioned Japanese ex-pats in the city of light.

Rex, since you've time on your hands, I think that you should do your top 10 on why Paris is a dump.

I just can't bear to look through these long threads (as bored as I am and twiddling my thumbs).

That way, when I'm unhappy, I can always pull up the top 10 and get a good laugh.

Rex: re: <<Is this from some "other" Margie than you? (it was before name registration)>> YES REX IT IS. Since you are supposed to be such and "expert" here you should have realized that the crap you dragged up and what I post are totally different styles and opinions. Maybe you should take the advice you are always bestowing on others and keep your topic travel related with a thread title that makes sense and is useful.

The next time you crave attention and decide you need post a thread naming names to get it, leave me out of it.

Best Wishes,
Margie

Ouch! Margie!
While it is unfortunate that someone else named Margie posted something before you registered, it is not really Rex's fault. Don't take it personally, it could be worse, some troll could follow you around and claim to know you
Take pity on poor Rex, it is Christmas time

Margie,

Should Rex be expecting a slander suit as well? Yikes!

I doubt the thread title was a malicious attempt to "get Margie." Anyone on this board who knows you would surely figure out the thread Rex is referring to was written by someone else.

Scarlett & Joyce, I appreciate what you are saying, but don't you think that before using someone's posting ID in a thread title you should bother to see who you were writing about? I do think it's Rex's fault, he authored the post and he is responsible for his words. Rex had plenty of time to dig back almost 3 years to find old troll posts, you would think that he would take 2 seconds to search on the names of the people he was slamming. No, I don't think it was intentionally malicious, but it was very annoying to open the forum this morning and find myself the topic of "Paris Disillusionment". Sorry, but have no pity for Rex.

Scarlett, if someday there is some troll following me around and claiming to know me, it will probably turn out to be Rex

I don't know you or your persona, "registered Margie" - - and it took me less than 60 seconds - - searching on "Paris hate", to find the three examples I cited. I had no idea if "that" Margie, or any other Margie might still come here, just as I had no idea if Ziana still comes here (might there be more than one Ziana?)

I stand by the validity of the thread - - anyone reading what I wrote sees that the point is the NEW published article on the Japanese syndrome.

But have a Merry Christmas all the same.

Feel free to write to [email protected] and have the thread removed. It's worthy of re-posting with a shortened message header, and I would still cite the same several old threads.

Rex, thanks for the permission to e-mail Fodor's; actually I asked that the thread be removed this morning, but I doubt your carelessness is serious enough for the Editor's to delete it.

Since you have an inordinate amount of time, why don't you check out the type of posts I write? If you don't know how to do that, just click on my underlined name on this response (after the word "Author&quot and you can see that I don't go around bashing cities (or individuals) or starting troll threads. Hopefully in the future you will do a little homework before using names in titles.

As far as the it being worthy of re-posting with a shortened message header?? Well, don't flatter yourself, it wasn't that amazing.

Oh well, life goes on. Have a good holiday.

Best Wishes,
Margie

Margie
when we post here our names our public, that's why some people use pseudonyms.
It's unfortunate that your name has been duplicated in the archives, and we all get that you really don't dislike Paris, but I really saw this as a light-hearted thread to begin with--the worst aspect of it is that you've been 'falsely accused' of disliking Paris when you don't. I wouldn't like my name bandied about either, but this was an honest mistake, since fodors archives files under pre-registration names.

If you like, perhaps you could consider re-registering under a different name--even just Margie plus last initial--if you contact fodors they can clear your registration and you can start again.

good luck

speaking of 'slanders' ennayllen, you are of course quite entitled to dislike New York, but calling it a 'depressing dump' isn't very kind to the people who live here and happen to like it.
Glad you're happy in CA.

elaine, I suspect ennayllen is our "friend" nellyann/praline, etc., trying to yank our chains. Please ignore.

Why do some here drag up old threads when most aren't interested? He's not the only one that does this.
But no harm done, so let's move on.
