Does any one have any specific recommendations for a 1-bedroom (or studio) apartment rental in Paris? Budget allows for no more than 800 euro/week. Please respond with address (as much as you remember) and website you found it on. If possible. Not as picky on district (1-8 would be great) but need a real bed (i.e not sofa) and a shower with either a door or curtain (if you know what i mean!)

Thanks all for the replies! An update: After discussing it with my husband, we've decided we want to stay in the Latin Quarter. The previous time we visited Paris we had only three days in town and stayed in the 2nd district. We LOVED it, but never got into the neighborhoods on the other side of the river (except the streets actually bordering the Seine) and since we'll have seven days, figure it would be a great way to delve into the left bank! So now we're looking for something in either the 5th or 6th.

In addition to looking for apartments in the Latin Quarter we are also looking for ones with certain amenities - though they are not critical. In particular a clothes washer/dryer would be useful as we are trying to be more efficient travelers and are packing lighter. We notice a lot of the listings have a washer present but no dryer. My question regarding this is "Are these washers typically of the washer/dryer combination type or do many people only own a washer and dry their clothes outside?" Remember, our trip is in December and drying outside would be a challenge.

Look at www.parisbestlodge.com for several flats in the Latin Quarter. They seem to fit all of your requirements as far as cost, a real bed and shower door.

I have never stayed at any of their flats but came across them doing some research at slowtrav.com. Slowtrav has rental reviews so you can get opinions from people who have actually stayed there.

Many people in Paris do own only a washer, so if it says that, assume it does not have a dryer. They don't necessarily dry clothes outsdie at all, though, they dry them inside on racks, hanging in the bathroom, etc. I have no idea what they do with things hard to dry (towels, sheets), but expect maybe they send those out or do them in laundromats.

Kugellager...You'll need an apartment near a laundromat if you want to use a dryer and especially since it's December and will be cold. It was cold when I was there this past March. I didn't use the washer, in the apartment that I rented though. I knew the laundromat was nearby if I had to use it which was one reason I booked the apartment that I did. Happy Travels!

Last year we stayed at the most perfect apartment in the St. Germaine des Pres area, on Rue St. Andres, a remarkable location!
It is a full one bedroom with a large living room, kitchen, bath and large hallway. The owner is Francine Carpon and she is very nice to work with.
I checked with her before I posted this to see if it was available in Dec., and it is. You see, it is her private apartment, and is filled with gorgeous books, artwork, and the kitchen is equipped to whip up a gourmet meal. Last year, she even had coffee, butter, cream, plus all kinds of dry staples for us to use.
We truly felt like we were Parisiennes when we were there. Everything you could possibly need is just steps away.

I decided on it due to recommendations from people on several forums.

Many of the washer units are also actually the dryers. It will, in fact wash, & then dry your clothes. Saves space, but they tend to dry very hot.

Back2Sabi and Kugellager:

We rented this apartment from vacationinparis last April. It's definitely a budget accommodation, but you just cannot beat the location. And the price was great. It did have a fold-out futon-type bed, rather than a couch. But if price is your main issue, I don't think you can beat it. We paid $772 for six nights.

Regarding washers/dryers: This was a big issue for me, as well, which was one of the reasons for choosing this apartment. However, after figuring out how long it would take to wash our stuff in that really small machine, we ended up just taking everything to the laundromat on the corner of Rue de Seine and Rue de Buci. In an hour, we had all our clothes washed and dried, and enjoyed a nice snack and drink while we were waiting.

If first impressions mean anything, then you should check out ParisBestLodge. The owner, Thierry, has been very very helpful with our upcoming planning. He responds immediately to emails and is very kind with his responses.

Unfortunately, he closes his apartments during the month of August, so we cannot stay with him next year, but if you don't travel then it should be fine for you.

Thanks so much for the tip on Thierry. We had fallen in love with his apartment in the 5th, but alas, it turns out it will not be available for the first day of our stay. So sad. He has two available in the Marais, but I think we've got our heart set on the 5th of 6th. (We want to try out life on the Left Bank... we were on the Right on our last trip to Paris!)

I can not speak for his apartment, but I would give Thierry an A+ for communication!

I agree wholeheartedly! You can't imagine how crushed I was when last week, a full year ahead of our trip I emailed him with our dates and he told me he shut down his apartments to go on vacation in August.

Just for reference...begging and pleading didn't work. I will definitely contact him in the future when we plan to go to Paris any other of the eleven months of the year.

Thierry is fantastic. Our apartment that we rented in June this year through him was without an ironing board. We mentioned it to Thierry and the next morning he arrived with one under his arm. My only distress is that I wasn't watching out the window as he came hurtling along the Blvd St Michel on his motor bike with it under his arm!! I still smile to think about it!!
