Paris Airport

The CDG airport is a long way from the city center. There's an RER train, line B (kind of a long range metro) that goes from the airport to Paris. Depending on how many stops the particular train makes, the ride is anywhere from 40 minutes to a little over an hour.

Unless your doing a quick stopover, the areas closest to the airport, DeGaulle, are not the most centrally located for most of the popular tourist locations.
That being said, geographically speaking, the higher number Arrondissement on the right Bank would be the closest. The lower numbered Arr. (1 through 8) are generally the center city.

tommyboy, have you done ANY work on this trip? bought a guidebook? searched the web? searched THIS forum? visited a travel bookstore? even gotten out a map??

It is never a good idea to depend upon the kindness of strangers; you will be SOL once you get to Paris.

This reminds me one of those moments when Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes, obviously), gets into one of his "I am great" mode.

He says that he will only answer to his full title "Calvin the Bold". The phrase that kills me is when he says:

"And also, Calvin the Bold will be referring to himself in third person"

Is tommy boy sure that he will be landing at CDG airport?
What if it should turn out to be Orly?

tommy boy, check the website of the Paris public transportation system ratp. You will find a lot of useful information there. Also, how to get around in Paris, once at your hotel.
www.ratp.fr (English version too!)

PS: Just curious, why is tommy boy asking about "hotels"? Is he staying in several hotels? Hotels in Paris are spread all over.

tommyboy has asked several questions, often repeating them in a different post if he doesn't get a response.

tommyboy, if you post and no one responds, then you post again with the attitude someone is supposed to respond, then expect to get your ears boxed. You are either extraordinarily naif, or a 17 year old troll.

Concurring to some degree with the previous poster, some of these threads are eerily unreal. "Tommy Boy" (and we all know what happened to Chris Farley) is going to Paris in September & plans on proposing to his girlfriend there, but seems to have done little, if any planning, & is apparently relying upon Fodorites to do that for him. Can't wait to see how this marriage turns out & if they have kids, what they'll be like!

I particularly liked the all caps warning Toomy Boy gave "don't mess with him". Or what, Tommy Boy, you'll find us & spank us? Gee, I'm scared to death here & REALLY feel terribly threatened.

Troll, be gone!

This thread has become like others on this board, useless. I guess some people (Tired,Bob,etc...)have such low self-esteems they feel compelled to digress from the subject matter and trash innocent posters like "tommyboy". I was interested to see what the "paris airport" question was. Why not log onto chatroomtravel.simpletons and get off this board. It's boring.

Bob, I couldnt have said it better myself, nearly fell out of my chari laughing at that one.

"Tommy Boy wants you to marry him?"

Other topics... I agree that travel agents can be helpful (most of them).

I also agree that kind people online who share their experiences can be helpful. (most of them).

Seperating the signal from the noise isn't too hard here, since finding this forum a month ago, I've found most of the discussions to be pretty helpful.

This is a great site.

David
