Anything in Cirencester?
We'll be staying in Cirencester for a few nights next month. What is there to do in or near there (besides Bath and the Cotswolds)?

Also, how do you PRONOUNCE Cirencester?
Cirencester is pronounced
Siren-ces-ter
The town itself is an old Roman Town (Corinium) and as a result there is the Corinium Museum in the town centre which is full of archaelogical finds from the area. There are many other sites of Historical interest within the town including:
Ancient Roman Wall,
The Abbey Grounds where the abbey was knocked down during the disestablishment of the Roman Catholic Church,
The Parish Church (containing the Anne Bolynn) Cup,
Cirencester Park - where Prince Charles plays Polo - and some great Walks,
The Roman Ampitheatre - not as impressive as the Colleseum, but interesting non the less,
The tallest Yew Hedge in the World,
Home to Anne Robinson of Weakest Link fame
As well as these, there are some fantastic restaurants (Tatyanns, Harry Hare's, Giovannis, Polo Canteen and a ridiculously large number of Pubs for a small town.
Within close distance of the town are the stunning views of Minchinhampton, Bibury with great walking etc...
Could go on and on.
Cheltenham is another fine town in close proximatey.
Everyone knows about Bath

Tim (born Bath, lives Cirencester)

Pam, if you are in to shopping there are also some wonderful shops - particularly antique type with old prints etc. plus a huge range of all sorts of other varieties!

Thanks for all the input. There's much more there than we thought!

My husband is distantly related to Anne Bolynn, so we'll be checking out that cup for sure!

I hope we can remember to say Siren-ces-ter right when we're there, Tim!

It's also the nearest town to the source of the Thames!
