Paperwork to Marry in Italy

Hi,

We are marrying in Tivoli this year and so far so good however i am struggling to confirm one piece of the paperwork puzzle.

We have all our documents legalised by the FCO in the UK now we need to get them translated and legalised in Italy...... this is where i run into a few issues .....any suggests and help would be most welcome.

Thanks,

BF

Ok, I've done the whole thing in Puglia, at a distance and with little Italian.

You need to get all those documents translated into Italian and approved as such by the local tribunal. For this you need tribunally approved translator. It cost us about E350.

We find out translator online and she was fantastic. The site we found had multiple translators all across the country.

You need to search under "traduzione legale italia giuridico" and they must include swearing the documents at the tribunale.

Good luck and come back and tell us how you got on.

If you are uncertain on what documents need sending, then check google and FCO

Marrying is always tricky in Italy.
Baptising a kid is no prob however.
Why ?
It is is easier to find a godfather than a witness in Italy.

I'd caution you on a few things

1) I've worked with Italians a lot and I have "views" one of which is individually they can be very organised and efficent, but once you get two together then forget it.
2) You have to check everything they do, everything, given how much paperwork you need for a wedding (I've seen the stack and it is on very big paper A0) you would think they are good at it, no.
3) At some point something will go wrong, just grin and replan
4) You need someone there, on standby who knows everyone, this is not a country that works well unless you "know" someone important. In our case we had a planner for our stay and the translator, between the two one knew the assistant to the mayor the other knew judge in the tribunal and the paperwork manager.

Good luck

We imported our witnesses as they have to registered in advance, you cannot just pick people off the street as in the UK
