P. Navona to Borghese Gardens

Is it a doable walk from the Piazza Navona to the Borghese Gardens/Gallery? What is the best route - along the river? How long would it take - leisurely walking.

If memory serves me, I would think that would be an extremely long walk. To give you an idea, I walked from the Termini Station to the Borghese Gallery and it took me about 25-30 minutes and that wasn't a leisurely walk. If you're coming from the Piazza Navona, I'm sure it would be much, much longer.

Along the river will put you at the west side of the park and Villa Borghese is on the east side. If you walk northeast as direct as possible to the Villa (you'll have a map I presume), it's just under 3km.

I am pretty sure I can find my way to Spanish Steps - how much further to Borghese. I have reservations at 13:00 for the Gallery, but thought I would like to picnic in the gardens before that. Any suggestions on where, approximately how far from gardens to gallery? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Barb,
if you can get to the spanish steps, walk into the metro station and take the escaltors up following the signs to the Via Veneto, you come right out on Via Veneto , walk under the archway porte on your left, CAREFULLY crossing the street!.turn right and VB is a 10 minute walk . We have done it several times and it's no big deal

Sorry didn't see the last part of your question..the museum is right in the Garden..but it is fun to wander around as it does cover a large area. If you go the way I described..there is a good grocery store right in the passsageway just before you come to the stairs leading to the outside at Via Veneto. There is also a nice restaurant in the lower floor of the museum where you will be picking up your tickets

Thanks JOdy - is the metro station easy to find? I know the Borghese grounds are pretty big - will I be able to find the gallery fairly easy from the gardens? I do have some maps, but it's hard to tell just how big it all is.

The shortest route would be walking north by Corso Rinascimento, go left and take Via della Scrofa, then take Via de Ripetta, up to Piazza del Popolo. Go a little North to Piazzale Flaminio, and get then into the gardens through there, by Vialle del Muro Torto, then take Via Washington. Walk inside the gardens heading to the northeastern direction, as this map shows ( sections 11, 4 and 5) .

Beware, though, that routes indide the park aren't straight.

http://www.roma1.infn.it/stripes/webxray/Piante/mappe.html

Shall be in total a 3, 3 and a half miles walk.

barb,

metro station is to the left as you face the Steps..there is no way to miss it, just walk past babington's tea room and it will be on your right. Follow along the side of the gardens and you'll see signage for Villa Borghese . it is just a short walk in from the sidewalk to the museum. And using the metro escalators eliminates about a mile or more from your walk!

Hi Barb,

We took that exact route for an 11:00 reservation. We walked by Spanish Steps and then up to Gardens. I'd allow at least 30 mins for this part. We had to hussle through the Gardens in order to get there on time. Then there's a long line at the Museum to get your tickets. Also, if you have a large bag you'll have to get in a separate coat check line.
