Oyster Card Refund

When I was in London a couple of years ago, there was a maximum limit on the amount of money you could get as a refund when you handed back your Oyster card, no matter how much credit was still loaded onto it.

I've looked on the tfl website but can't see any reference to this amount.
Does anyone know if there is still a limit?

Many thanks, Di

I don't see it on the website either, but I found this on another site (written January 2012):
http://www.toptiplondon.com/transpor...r-card-refunds

I've also read that if you use a credit card to pay for any portion of the amount you put on the Oyster, you will not get a refund. I don't see this on the tfl website, so don't know if it's true or not, but here's a thread from Rick Steves where travelers say they were denied a refund for using a credit card to top off their Oyster: http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/h...fm?topic=77396

don't mean to hijack-- but while we're on the subject-- we have 2 oyster cards from last april. happen to be going back in september-- and will use the cards again.

if we want to get a refund at the end of this trip, what happens if we no longer have the credit card we used originally for the deposit? (that card was voided after someone stole the numbers and started charging from across the country.) will they refund without the original credit card??

or if we want to keep them-- is there a time limit of one or more years??

I think the answers above are not quite accurate.
Oyster funds do not expire and can always be refunded,
just perhaps not in cash if a large amount or a credit charge.

Kawh, hope someone knows the answer to your refund question-
but I do know you can keep your Oysters forever.
