Overnight train from Rome to Paris
We are thinking of purchasing the EasySaver train passes for train travel through Italy including an overnight trip from Rome to Paris. Has anyone travelled on this overnight train? What are the cabins (double "first class" we thought), food, luggage storage, etc. like? Also, we understand that train travel is pretty expensive, has anyone worked out if it is cheaper to perhaps fly Rome to Paris? Thanks for any info.

Discounting the minor inconvenience, it is certainly cheaper to fly from Paris (Beauvais - - cheap bus ride of 80 minutes duration, I think) to Rome (Ciampino - - the "Midway" airport of Rome, smaller, and actually closer to the center of Rome).
The eminent Ben Haines has assembled a goodly wealth of info on overnight trains, and it is posted on a geocities web page that bears my name - - see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...2&tid=34547441
Train travel in Italy is such a good bargain that only rarely will a rail pass make sense - - consult www.railsaver.com for more details.
Best wishes,
Rex

Hi at,
Good advice from Rex.
I think he meant to fly from Rome Ciampino to Paris Beauvais.
You can get the cost of the train ride at http://www.voyages-sncf.com/

PS,
OTOH, you will find it more convenient to fly from Rome FCO to Paris CDG.
www.mobissimo.com has 135USD for the RT, which is (I think) cheaper than one-way.
Train schedules and prices are at www.trenitalia.com/en.

Aussies - RyanAir are the only budget airline flying Rome-Paris. They are currently running a 50% off sale if you book today.
Their current quote for Rome (Ciampino) to Paris (Beauvais) starts at € 5.99 + Tax - depending on your travel date.

If you're looking for the budget option there's really no contest
Otherwise it's Alitalia or Air France from Fiumicino ...
Hope this helps ...

P.S. The only comparable budget option would be from NAPLES to Paris (Orly) with Easyjet.
