Lipuma vs AMEX
For those of you who ight mnot know of this, www.lipumasettlement.com gives the details of a class action suit for AMEX card members who charged goods and services in foreign currency from 1997 to 2004.
I expect to get as much as $35.00.
The lawyers are asking for $11,000,000.

Is there anything on the AMEX site? I would not give any personal details unless I called the AMEX office direct or knew there was info on their website, which I would go directly to.
Phsing (or whatever it is called) is a great problem on the web.
Am sure Ira checked everything out very carefully, but I would be cautious.

Hi all,
For those of you who are concerned about whether this is legitimate:
I found out about it at www.americanexpress.com
I have been in contact with the settlement office by snail mail.
It is absolutely legitiate.
Further opinions,
It is the most outrageous lawsuit I have ever heard of since the Toshiba settlement.

Thanks Ira, I figured you knew what you were talking about - just have read about so many schemes lately.
So tired of classaction suits - it seems as though all the paperwork is hardly worth the while but I will check it out too. Take care.

I just got mine in the mail a few minutes ago. It's legit - I remember getting a notice from them a few months ago and tossing it in the trash. I'll fill it out and send it in, for what it's worth - probably enough to buy a bottle of Badoit next trip to Paris.

My DH got one for his account today..but I didn't for mine..so I printed off a form from the website. We've both used our individual cards many times within the time frame. Hey if we only get $15.00 each that's 30 dollars..or a half tank of gas or 2 bottles of wine in France! BTW..$15.00 is the minimum you'd receive

This is not a scam. The "little people" are getting millions of dollars - just dividied up among a lot of us. So - if you would rather complain then get the cash - be my guest - more for me!
(And we got the paperwork on this in the mail last week.)

I think I received a check from Citibank a year ago as the result of a class action. The grand total for me was...
NINE CENTS!
I was never that good at math, but I'm pretty sure that it cost more than nine cents just to mail the check.

and is the alternative to not participating in a class action law suit, or even bringing one against a company like American Express, allowing them to get away with illegal practices? Making even more money on us?
This one ( to my understanding) was for their conversion of foreign currency charges for 7 years! We have used our AmEx cards in Europe since before then! That is a lot of charges they got and got away with.
So while one might see the attorneys making millions (don't they anyway?) the companies get a message also.
