Overnight stop between Piedmont and Venice
In Sept., we are spending 3 days in Piedmont and then 3 days in Venice before flying home. We want to break up our drive (we will have a car) from Alba to Venice by one night on one of the lakes. From the map, looks like Lake Garda is the best option. I am looking for a good spot and hotel/inn/villa with relatively easy access from the interstate A4 and, as we will have one night only there. As we are staying cheaply in Piedmont, we could do a more expensive place (250-300 US Dollars) for one night. Any thought are welcomed. Many thanks.

I'm booked for a week at Villa Sampaguita. I like the price, I like the fact he runs his own winery (I love wine), it's location, and thought it would be a great place to relax and take in the ambiance of the area. I looked into baur, and it looks very nice, but more than I wanted to pay. It got great reviews also. We're going in May, so I'll give a trip report when I get back.

Bob, we're going in mid-May. The reviews on Trip Advisor look almost too good to be true -- like they were all written by the same person.

I've got good vibes about the Villa and will do a trip report when I get back. Tim & Rina sound like wonderful people. I'm looking forward to some of Rina's cuisine.

keithp - we stayed at Baur B&B (www.baurbb.com) last June for 5 nights and had a wonderful time! Diana and Mischa are exceptional hosts, her breakfasts are the best we have had in Europe. They will help you with every detail of your stay there. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, beds extremely comfortable and they provide many nice amenities not seen in most European B&B's. Acqui Terme is a wonderful, charming town and well located for exploring the PIedmont region.
