My husband, 16 year old son and I rented an apartment right near the cat sanctuary and walked past it several times a day for a week. Each time we stopped to see how many cats we could count among the ruins. As Tracy says, they seemed very happy.

One thing I meant to mention before is that there is a Spar supermarket along Via dei Cestari -- a good place to stock up on water and snacks.

Thanks Tracy & Vtraveler, now I can visit the cat santuary! We lodged close to it, but I never had the "nerve" to stop by. Glad to know the cats are well taken care of. I hope they are neutered & spayed!

We return in November; I'll put that on my list!

Is it possible to hire an English speaking driver at the port, indicate to him where we'd like to go?

We've done this before on other cruises and have outstanding experiences.
