Not to beat a dead horse here - but I would be interested in the pros and cons of this car rental idea relating to the Chiusi closing. We had planned on taking the train from Rome to Chiusi Tuesday, May 3. After picking up our Avis rental car through AE, driving to La Saracina where we'll be staying through Saturday, May 7. We were then going to return our rental car to Chiusi and take the train to Milan (where we'll fly out of the next morning). Plane and hotel arrangements are already in place. Since the Chiusi situation is "iffy" - would this work instead? Rent through Hertz, pickup in Orvieto with a return at Arezzo - taking the train from Arezzo to Milan. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks!
Lisa

dorkforcemom - I spoke with AE today and was told they will meet us in Chiusi at the train station at whatever time we tell them.

They also offered to deliver the car to our hotel but that wouldn't work for us since we're not staying in Chiusi and the car is the only way to get to the hotel.

I already called AE and it arranged my rental car to be dropped in Orvieto.

However, after more than half a day, I still did not receive the voucher through email. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to receive it?

Just an update for those who are interested: I managed to book a car by calling AE (Hertz), to be picked up in downtown Florence and dropped in Orvieto. However, AE refuses to give the same discount it offers for other drop off points, as shown on the website for the same period. On top of that, there is a 135USD CDW and 265 USD theft deductible.

Not sure if it's a good deal now but definitely it gives me the convenience of training direct from Orvieto to Naples.
