Tell me about this village

Beautiful cathedral (check the T.I. for any concerts going on), fabulous pottery shops and many good restaurants to choose from. Stayed 3 nights and enjoyed every minute with a day trip out via car.

The town is a wonderful stop on your way to Tuscany from Rome.

It's not a village. It was a major Etruscan city and is still one of the larger towns in Tuscany. The facade of its Duomo is among the most spectacular in Italy and its interior has important frescoes. Its Etruscan past has left it with many fascinating aspect of historic past.

It has a train station if you don't have a car. If you do have a car, you should drive to the west of Orvieto to see a view of the cathedral from a distance of a few miles. It is extraordinary.

Its a great city to spend a day. The duomo is amazing, with its spectacular facade, and the views of the Umbria countryside from behind the duomo are picture-perfect. There is also another wonderful church to visit at Piazza del Republica, although the name of it escapes me right now.

If you like shopping and pottery, there are some great pottery shops there.

Yes, Orvieto DOC wines are predominatly trebbiano blended with other grapes including grechetto and verdello. Wine has been made in this area since the days of the Etruscans. Very fruity, they go well with food.

Nice day or overnight stop. Lots of great shoe shops. The nearby hilltop village of Civita makes a great side trip. You have to park your vehicle and walk across a suspension bridge to get to Civita, a quaint and cute village, makes for a good nack stop.

Lovely Orvieto. I stayed two days...wish I had stayed more! I had a car.

Lots of lovely craft stores- brilliant wood working one called Michaelangelino (?). Hope that's the name!

The Underground tour was a highlight for us! We also enjoyed the view from the bell tower. As everyone else mentioned, the Duomo facade is amazing.
