Funny how these etiquette threads sometimes take a life of there own and end up in a completely different area!
Just trying to get back on topic... from the posts of others it seems that while it may not be the norm, you can order your coffee to come with your dessert. Although this is not what the french/european do, it's not a big deal and most waiters would be happy to accomodate you - is this right?

If you order and pay at the bar, you should not then go sit down. Table service is extra.
If you order and sit down before paying, you will be charged for table service.
It will add about 1E to the price of the coffee.
