Opinions on the Moulin Hotel Pitlochry

We will be spending 2 nights in Pitlochry, or nearby, in September and have been looking at the Moulin Hotel, which has been recommended by Sheila on this forum. Their website makes the hotel look qute good, the price is within our budget and they have availability, but before we book I would be interested to hear from anyone who has stayed there. I emailed the hotel to ask whether they had any more room photos, and to enquire what was the level of the rooms on the website (standard or superior). Their response was that the rooms on the website were from their sister hotel nearby, but their rooms were similar. Now I'm wondering why their own rooms were not displayed! Just looking a bit of reassurance from someone who has stayed at this hotel as it seems to meet our requirements. Thanks

I've stayed these. But you know my views.

The Atholl Arms in Blair Atholl (their sister hotel) is a bit more upmarket, but that's more to do with the nature of the buildings

We stayed at the Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry. The hotel is gorgeous, the grounds are stunning, and the staff is warm and friendly. I would stay here again and again and again. There are special prices available. If you are interested, make sure that you check the prices online and phone the hotel for prices. Sometimes one has better prices than the other. Usually they have terrific deals for DBB. http://www.athollpalace.co.uk/

There is a theater in Pitlochry that has first class plays. Make sure you have your hotel get your tickets as far in advance as possible, because it is almost impossible to get tickets last minute. http://www.pitlochry.org.uk/
Have a wonderful time. Pitlochry is a beautiful area--one of my favorite places in Scotland.

Thanks for your responses. We have actually booked now at the Westland, which looks OK and had a good deal. I am sure we will enjoy our brief stay in Perthshire in any case. We lived in Glasgow for 10 months in 03/04 and made a couple of day trips into this area but this time we are on holidays and want to spend a couple of full days there.

The Westlands is nice enough. It doesn't have the character, but will be more homogenous. More central. On the main road. Big garden, lots of parking.

Well it has to be OK now! Hopefully we won't be spending too much time in the hotel, we will be too busy out walking and taking in the scenery. Thanks for your comments

In case anyone is interested, we enjoyed our stay at the Westlands. Just a touch of Basil Faulty in the Manager but nothing that upset our stay. The Westland was very convenient being just a few minutes walk from the town centre and the room was quite roomy and comfortable. We had a look at the Moulin and it looked very nice but we were happy where we were. Perthshire was lovely of course. Another great stay in Scotland!
