whitejade - honey -- advertising is not allowed on here . . .

Registering just to dredge up 3 old/moldy threads to post a dubious link -- sheesh

How DID you find a 9 year old thread to top anyway -

Whitejade, I too notice you are advertising your website. Did you bother to read Fodor's rules? If not please do so. If you did..well why would one want to do business with someone that can't respect Fodor's very simple rules? Or with someone that can't even bother reading Fodor's rules actually.

Diesel exhaust reminds me of Rome and the smell of rain in the air brings back memories of Paris.

I just used a cream rinse on my hair that I haven't used in years and it instantly reminded me of being in Mexico.

There are smells from Amsterdam that I pickukp and can't quite identify, but I always say to my daughter, this smells just like Amsterdam.

Actualy I can be taken back in time with food odors on the street, perfume and the temperature and humidity in the air. I am transformed back to my vacation spot and it feels so wonderful. I wish it happened more often.

Hey, Valerie

Wow, now that's weird. I do the same but with aftershave, of course . I try to buy one that's "themed" to my travels - Kouros for Greece, Opium for Men for Asia, Tsar for Austria etc. And like you when I use them it brings back fond memories.

The combination of cigarette smoke and diesel make me giddy for Italy and Paris....My first trip to Bologna a tiny sample of Clinique "Happy" perfume had leaked on all my clothes. To this day, when I smell it, I am back in Italy!
Orange filled croissants-Venice, woke up at 5:00am to the strong smell of this baking downstairs in our hotel.

I thought I was the only person in the world who loves the smell of diesel fumes, that always takes me straight back to Europe. The same applies to the musty smell of an old church.

I save small sample perfume vials and lotions to take with me on vacation, and there are certain scents from those products that I will forever tie to a particular destination. For instance, I had a small sample of Fracas perfume that I used while on vacation in Florence and Rome several years ago and now whenever I smell it I think about Italy. And a certain vanilla body splash will always take me back to Croatia when I catch a whiff.

When I smell stale urine from a sewer, I always think of walking down a backstreet in London.

Yes, there are still old ladies selling lavendar in Hvar (and other places in Croatia too). They're probably even making more money now than ever since the country's become more capitalist and tourist friendly.

I'll keep going with the 1999 thread -

"stale piss and wafty loveliness of human excrement reminds of the world's most beautiful city, Paris"

For me, that smell means only one thing: New Orleans.

And god, do I love the smell of boxwoods.
