Only 329 days to go!
Playing the usual AA Frequent Flyer game, today I booked our flight to Europe for next summer. Not only was I able to book the free business class tickets on Iberia May 24, 2006 from JFK to Madrid, but also the accompanying free first class tickets 9 days earlier from Ft. Lauderdale to LaGuardia. Now I wait 9 more days to book the Business class ticket from Madrid to Rome, and then try to get AA to keep the whole thing on hold until I can book our mid-July return from Paris.
Incidentally, I just plugged in our itinerary and found the tickets we're doing would cost a little over $6800 each -- not bad for 90,000 miles each.

By the way, it is interesting that yesterday the AA site only showed flights up to and including May 22 of next year. I assumed today they'd add May 23, and then tomorrow they'd add May 24. But surprise. This morning when I looked, they had added two more days of flights. So that 'exact date you can book' thing is not an exact science. The humanoid I talked to for booking comfirmed that sometimes several days are added at once.
He also told me that although they will supposedly only hold these partial bookings for two weeks, since I can't book the return for a number of weeks, I need to talk to someone who WILL do that. He warned me that I may get a "no" answer, but to thank them, hang up, and call back until I get someone who will put it on hold until I can book the return.
Ah, it's all such a game, this FF sport.

You're right about it not being an exact "330" out booking - the humanoid I spoke to explained it's like stocking shelves in a store. Everything isn't stocked at once - they may "stock" (or load) the FF seats inconsistently.
