One way or round trip on Air France
I know that it is a no-no not to use a return ticket in the US. Has anyone bought a roundtrip ticket on Air France and not used the return portion? The fares are so much cheaper roundtrip, but I want to return by train. Any experience with this out there??

Haven't done that with Air France, but have done it with Alitalia and Lufthansa. Incredibly, a round-trip ticket was about half the price of a one-way ticket; so I did the prudent thing and bought the round trip, then discarded the return half. I did, however, give the airlines a call after arrival to let them know I was cancelling the return.

Did it last year w/Air France (actually our travel agent arranged it) We flew into Munich; then took Air France from Munich to Nice; and Flew home from Nice. The ticket from Munich to Nice was actually a Round-Trip ticket cuz it was only $79 instead of $140

The travel agent said you dont have to worry as long as the return date on the half you are not using is after your actual return home time.

For Example say this is your package:

Chicago to Munich---On sept 1

Munich to Nice Sept 5 -- return Sept 7 (which you don't use)

Nice to Chicago---Sept 12

Well if you don't show up for the scheduled flight on Sept 7, ALL of your remaining itinary could be cancelled. If you pick a round trip return date later than Sept 12, then when you don't show up and it gets cancelled--who gives a rip.
