Oia or Fira

Hi everyone!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my posts in the past. I have the same question to ask again to hopefully get many more amazing answers!

Context: we will be heading to Santorini for 4 days in June, and we would like some suggestions as to where to stay (i.e. the famous question... Oia or Fira). Although we would like to enjoy the nightlife on a few nights, going to bars and clubs is not the reason for our visit. We want to admire the beauty of Santorini.

I heard that Oia is the most beautiful place (and of course the site of the famous Santorini sunset), but is there lots to do in Oia? Also, how long is the drive from Oia center to Fira by car?

I'm sure I'll have more questions, so thanks everyone for taking the time to give me your tips!

Mike

I am in love with Oia, it is one of the most beautiful places i have seen.. Most photos of Santorini that you have seen come probably were probably taken in Oia.

While Oia has a wonderful sunset, you can see it also from other places that are on the caldera, Imerovigli, Firostefani and Fira have sunset view as well.

In terms of nightlife everything happens in Fira, so if you love clubs and bars you will have to go there ( and come back either with a rental car or a taxi).
Oia is much more quiet at night, there are many restaurants and cafes but a minimal nightlife.

Oia is only 20 minutes away from Fira by car, there are regular buses connecting the two villages, but the last bus from Fira to Oia is quite early, if you you want to explore the nightlife.

Oia definitely! I don't think I have seen a more beautiful place.

Thanks clausar and Odin! Any hotels in particular that you would suggest in Oia?

We really enjoyed the Hotel Aethrio, with its own view of the sunset as well as a distant view of the caldera. Most of the hotels in Oia are set into the side of the caldera; you climb down and you climb up. And you can't see the sunset there -- at least in the summer. The Aethrio is on the flat in the middle of town.

Thanks Mimar! Aethrio was actually one of the options we were considering.
Brotherleelove, ideally, not more than 95 euros. Thanks!

We stayed at Old Oia Houses, it's not a hotel though, more of a small apartment with views to the caldera, no swimming pool.
