"web" fares have to be bought at least two weeks before the trip date. Estrella fares are not so cheap but can be bought more near to the trip date. The number of seats for each fare is limited.
I think that your problem is that the 24th of March is Easter Monday. It can be tricky because it is a bank holiday in Cataluña, so plenty of people will be travelling.
I have done a random search, and I have seen that you could get a "estrella" fare if you choose first a "preferente" ticket. The price would go down to 91 euros, not bad for the level of service.
You must select first the train and the fare(choose one with a star near the number of the train, it means that there will be a "estrella" fare), type the numbers they show below, go ahead and in the following screen you will be able to select the kind of fare for your seat. If there is a estrella or a web fare, you will be able to select it. Right now I think you have to select Preferente in order to get the discount for that date.
It sounds awfully complicated, I know.
