Oct Honeymoon in Greece - too late???

We are thinking of doing a Crete (Blue Spa), Mykonos (Santo Marina Spa /Ornos Bay), and Santorini (Vedema Resort:Megalohori) from Oct 4 - 17 for our honeymoon.

Do you think this is too late into october - we still want to do some swimming. Thoughts on the iternary?

After looking the discussions here, we are probably going to stay at the katikies or the perivolas in Santorini (i understand the Vedema is inland).

Given that we may do 4-5 days in Santorini and pick either Mykonos or Crete for the rest of the time. Which island would offer the better chance at doing some swimming and enjoying the beaches (oct 4-10)? Any chance we would be able to get some swimming in Santorini. Also would appreciate thoughts on timeline - we are thinking 5/6 nights either Myk or Crete, 4 in Santorini and 2/3 in Athens. Thanks

Although I have visited a couple of the Greek islands (Crete, Rhodes, Zante), I would be careful if you are travelling out early/mid Oct, as the weather tends to change quite rapidly. I visited Turkey during this time and spent most of my days undercover, shielding from the rain, and some restaurants/bars were closed.

As for recommendations, I enjoyed Crete, I believe Santorini is beautiful and also Skiathos (well known for the beautiful beaches). Check with your travel agent to be on the safe side... afterall, this is your Honeymoon there is has to be right.

Good luck and all the best for your forthcoming marriage.

Just a thought, what about visiting Cyprus?

Hi,
Of coarse I have not been to Greece in Oct. so I really have no authority, but we went to Spain in the middle of Oct. and the sea was delightful to swim in. My next trip will be to Crete. I have done a little research and it sounds like you could spend a lot of time there. Have a wonderful honeymoon.

I am thinking we should be able to get a few days of swimming in. We are planning on staying at the Blue Spa - I understand this is a more remote area of the island, but I think we hang out there for R&R and spend our time in santorini and athens exploring. Has anyone been to blue spa?

The name of the hotel is actually the Blue Palace, which is in Elounda on the NE Coast. While we are planning on spending most of the time near the hotel/spa and beach, would it be useful to rent a car?? How are the rates?

Also, if traveling to Santorini from Crete, is a ferry or plane (which looks like you have to connect in Athens) preferred? Anyone know the best site to book inter-island ferries/flights?

Thanks

Hi,
I think you should take the ferry from Crete to Santorini. It is not a long ride. Do a google search. I forget the best site. Maybe someone else knows. Crete has a lot to offer and I would want a car. There is more to explore on Crete than Santorini. It all sounds wonderful to me.
