Nurnberg Nuremberg Restaurants

Can anyone suggest some good restaurants in Nuremberg?

I'm interested in old creaky places with lots of atmosphere, good service, and more pork than I can shake a stick at.

Thanks,

There is a small Italian restaurant called "C'era una volta" with creaky wooden tables all decked up and an atmosphere that's heavy on the old world charm. It's on the second or third alley on the right side when you walk past the old town gate from the train station. It's not german but that's where the former German Chancellor Schroeder once celebrated his birthday (he's a real foodie).

At some time during your visit, be sure to try the Nurnberger wursts (small fresh pork sausages, grilled, that will set you free!!). There is a small restaurant just near the Fountain Beautiful on the Hauptmarkt that serves these delicacies. They even have a takeaway window.

Cheers,

I did exhaustive research on local Bavarian beers and Bratwursts in every town on our last trip to Germany. Each town claims to have the best in Germany. And they all do!

From personal experience the Barfuss braueri was outstanding. Can't say specifically the location but it is within the downtown core and easy to find. It is located in some former grain caverns well below street level with a lift. Great food, beer and the old world charm with the arched brick ceilings has the bavarian feel to it. It actually is a quite new renovation though. Second the place near the famous fountain ( approx. kitty corner) is the BratwurstHausel and the famous little wursts they grill are fantastic. Germany is full of places just like you describe though, old world charm, creaky, mountains of pork, etc.
