Norway in December for 8-10 Days

Hello! we are thinking of doing a trip between xmas and nye to Norway. Obviously there are a lot of things that won't good that time of year, like hiking, etc. But for anyone who has been in the winter I'd love to hear what/where you loved. Also do you know if the "nutshell" tour is doable in the winter (trains and fjord tours?) thanks!

It might be doable, but a lot of it will be in the dark. The trip from Oslo to Bergen via the NIN tour takes 12 hours. How many hours of daylight are there in that region in the darkest time of the year?

If you are willing to spend that amount of money for traveling in the dark the majority of the time.

We've decided to do an 8 day self guided tour which includes a cruise and also the Flam railway- very excited and fingers crossed we will see the Northern Lights!

I just want to post a quick update. We flew into Oslo on Dec 24th and traveled around- Lillehammer, Trondheim, Bergen, Flam, Oslo by train and cruise. It was spectacular! Even though the sun rises late and sets early it is light about the same amount of time as here in Seattle. And the light is BEAUTIFUL!!

Loved the tour we booked thru Authentic Scandinavia and also the Norway in a Nutshell trip.

Norway loves Christmas and every city had trees lit and decorations. The only challenge we encountered was that many many shops and restaurants were closed for the holidays. However being in the world's most expensive country- that maybe was a blessing
