norway in a nutshell in March

Has anyone done Norway in a Nutshell in March? We'll be in the area and wonder what it would be like at this time of year. Still worth doing, or should we wait until we go back "someday" to do it in the summer?
Thanks for any input.

Scandinavia in winter is lovely, when it is covered with snow. The drawback is that there is not many daylight hours: usually 9-3 or 9-4, so you have to figute it out if you can squeeze your sightseeing in them. Also, it will be cold.

Suzanne,

I have done it a couple of times in May and it was magical, but gave it a miss on a visit in early March for a number of reasons.

In March it will be light from roughly 6-6 as that is near the equinox. However you need to recognise that the sun will still be low at that time of year so many parts of the fjords will be in shade (assuming the skies are clear). This will add to the cold on the ferry portion of the trip so you will probably not want to spend much time on deck unless you are very well wrapped up. In the winter months the bus takes the main road and misses out the hairpins by the Stalheim Hotel and takes the main road.

However these are not reasons not to do it, but they do mean that it may be less enjoyable than it would be later in the year. Also to a considerable extent it will depend on the conditions at the time of your visit - on a very good day it could still be great.

Thanks for your input. We've decided to postpone Norway in a Nutshell until some later visit in the summer. For this trip we'll focus on visiting relatives in Sweden and then spend time in Copenhagen and Oslo. Knowing the fjords will be there for another trip makes it less sad to be missing them now. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
