Norway - Fjord Itinerary

We will have a few days in the Fjord area at the end of our trip in early July. Here is our tentative plan:

Day 1: Drive from Oslo, through Lillehammer & Lom, and stay up there somewhere.
Day 2: Explore glacier area and end up in Voss to sleep.
Day 3: Take Norway in a Nutshell route roundtrip from Voss, drive on to Bergen.

Does this plan make sense? Any suggestions on where to stay the first night? We are active 20's who enjoy natural scenery. We will also have a rental car to be returned in Bergen.

I really can't help you - did the Oslo-Bergen train and the coastal ship [Hurteg something.] My opinion is that you can't go too wrong. Take your best shot and I am sure it will be good. A beautiful country and a gracious people.

This is a very good itinerary. The drive from Lom to the Lusterfjord is one the most scenic high mountain drives. I would also drive to the Jostedal Glacier. You drive past the Museum on to gravel the Toll Road leading closer to the Glacier. From the end Car park you can either walk or take a small boat across getting you closer to the Glacier. I was there last summer, but in bad weather I skipped the boat, and gazed from the other side.

This may help you:

Regarding accommodation in the Lom area. Centre of Lom is basically a hotels/cabin area at the gas station and road crossing leading towards Lom Stave church. To the southwest of the road lie Fossheim Hotel and Fossberg Hotel and cabins. On the Northeast side of the road lays Nordal Motel and cabins. Good thing about the area is that it is livelier than remote areas and it would be nice to walk to the Stave church after settling inn. Further up the valley lies Roisheim old century farm, remember eating sour-cream waffles there in my childhood. If staying further up the mountain then here are mountain lodges in the middle of nowhere. Even though there might be less comfort, you could soak in the faboulus views. Such places would be Leirvassbu or Jotunheimen mountain lodge. Sognefell mountain lodge close to the road is an alternative, but this only have simple standard rooms without shower and toilet in the room.
