North or south from Gotenburg with car?
We are picking up a new Volvo in Gotenburg in May and are deciding whether to drive North to Norway or South to Denmark. Have maybe a week and then return to Gotenburg.

When we picked up our Volvo, we headed north to Oslo first and then on to Voss. We only drove for 4 days; if we had more time, we would have gone all the way to Bergen.
We used Norway in a Nutshell to plan our route. Take a GPS! The roads signs, town names etc are really hard to deal with - even with maps.

I should have said we only took 4 days for the entire road trip. We drove to Oslo, stayed overnight, then drove to Voss. Did the Flam railroad and fjord boat ride. Then drove back to Oslo; stayed overnight. Then drove back to Göteborg.
Enjoy the trip! It was quite an experience.
Do you know about trying for upgrades to Business class IF you are flying over on SAS?
Optiontown.com offers them. We were able to upgrade for just under $900 RT per person.

If you are interested in spectacular scenery then Norway and the west coast fjords is the obvious choice. If you prefer flat farmland then choose Denmark. Aim for a couple of nights in Bergen.
Good hotels in the fjord area on your way to Bergen are: http://www.fleischers.no, http://fretheimhotel.no/en/, http://www.stalheim.com

Thank you both for input. One question, is there much to see on the actual Swedish coast either way? We would love to see more of Sweden too and maybe stop for a night either way. It is a difficult choice indeed! And are the Archipelago Island worth seeing in May?
We are very excited to drive our new Volvo!

Our trip was- 4 days in Copenhagen first. Then we took train to Göteborg. We were met at train station by Volvo rep who took us to customer Delivery Center. We had lunch , did the tour and got the car. We stayed overnight at Radisson, them headed up to Norway for 4 days. We spent 3 nights in Göteborg and then took train to Stockholm for 5 nights. From there, we flew to Paris for 8 nights and then flew home via CPH. All of the internal travel was on our dime. Volvo flew us to CPH and then home from Paris.

If you're driving north and want to see some of the Swedish archipelago as well you can stop at the city of Strömstad. Very nice little town with lots of seafood restaurants. From there you can go out to the Koster Islands with a ferry (http://www.swedenroadtrip.com/koster...national-park/). I think just a stop over the day is enough and then continue to Oslo. Good luck and have a nice trip!
