Normandy Hotel

Has anyone stayed here recently?? It is in the 1er, near the Louvre. I have read that the rooms are shabby for a 4*. Have they been renovated??

I stayed there in January. I am not accustomed to staying in 4* hotels, but I reserved this thru an Expedia winter promo which made the price very nice -- about $130 for a double per night. Their rack rate appeared to be something like 350 euro and I would never have paid that; however, I don't know for sure what you should get for 350 euro a night.

Anyway the lobby was pretty classy. The room was large (compared to what I have stayed in for alot less money) but it didn't seem like it could possibly be worth 350 euro. I guess I would say it was a little shabby as well. The bathroom was very nice -- clean, shiny, and roomy. The location was superb if you are going to spend time at the Louvre. The breakfast buffet was 23 euro and the continental breakfast was 15 euro. We didn't partake! Any more questions?

I would definitely stay there again at the price I was paying. I am not a clean freak, but I would say it was clean. I just wouldn't be paying 350 euros for it.

I stayed there just last week --I found it delightful and charming. The staff is wonderful. I was traveling solo and the room was perfect. It is not shabby -- those are antiques, folks. The bathroom is sparkling clean and modern. The location is so convenient to the Louvre, d'Orsay, Pont Neuf and Ile de Cite (Notre Dame and Ste. Chapelle), as well as the Metro. Many cafes and restaurants within the block. I'd certainly stay there again, but not higher than my rate of $135 Euro.

As a suggestion, you may want to inquire at Hotel Brighton which is closeby the Normandy. If you ask for a room with a view the offer just may return with a renovated room with a Tuileries view. All for 168 euros including breakfast (160 euros without b'fast). I'm happy as the rooms are supposedly pretty spacious. I understand the renovated rooms are the only ones to request as the older rooms are smaller and not as nice.
