"No Grape Jam in France" !!!
#21
Okay I will modify that to say that almost no grape jam is sold in France except in certain regional markets and it represents less than 1% of the market.
If you read about "confiture" in France, you will see that more than 50% of the market is strawberry and apricot. Once you have added currant, orange marmelade, raspberry, mirabelle, plum and a few others, there is not much left. Any who cares? In West Indian stores, I see all sorts of jams -- mango, rose, banana, papaya and so forth and so on. They are just not part of mainstream French tastes, just like grape jam. If anybody wants to go hunting, be my guest.

I used to want grape jelly so bad (and yes we have both grape jam and jelly here, but not preserves) as a kid. Everyone had PB&J with grape whatever, except poor me. My grandmother made strawberry preserves every year and usually also peach preserves, so we never bought jelly. My mom didn't care that I woulda killed for grape jelly...we had perfectly good preserves and she wasn't gonna buy something extra that wasn't a necessity!
I love the emotion that a post about grape jelly can generate. I don't care either way but if I can, I always go for strawberry preserves!
