Night train from Vienna to Prague

I am thinking to try and book a night train from Vienna @ 22:08 that arrives in Prague @ 6:15 AM. Has anyone done this?

I realize that the day fare is only 40 euro and takes only 4.5 hrs but I might like to travel at night since my stay in Europe is very limited.

I haven't taken that particular night train but I have taken night trains in other places. What are your questions/concerns?

I hate to disappoint you, but the train D406/EN476 which leaves Westbanhof at 22.08 arrives in Prague at 3.22 in the morning. What will you do then that early.
The other train goes via Bratislava where you'd have to change trains. Not very convenient.
Vienna to Prague is relatively short journey less than 5 hours - so I would just take the day train....start early and you'll be in Prague at lunchtime.

If you don't mind travelling by bus, I think either Orangeways or Student Agency runs between Prague and Vienna for quite cheap, $20 or so. I took a midnight bus from Prague to Vienna, but I don't know when they run from Vienna to Prague. You can purchase tickets online through their respective websites.

Yes, but you're only on the first train from Südbahnhof Ostbahn for about an hour, as it gets in to Bratislava shortly before midnight, so it wouldn't be that inconvenient.

Night trains are handy to save on both time and money, since you don't have a get a hotel room.

These trains are complex and confusing. The train leaving Wien at 2208 has sleeping cars for Berlin which arrive in Praha at 0322, and also has a sleeping car which goes by a different route to reach Praha at 0615.

That's true GeoffHamer - but the carriage waits in Breclav for about 3 hours to connect with the train that goes from Bratislava......

but you would be sleeping during that 3 hours in Breclav anyway - confused to why that is a problem?

Interesting info. It might be worth it, depending on the cost of the sleeping berth, to book the night train. I will look some more into it.
