Not w/o a budget? &quot;Not outrageously expensive&quot; could mean &euro;90 a night to one person and &euro;400 to someone else.

There are hundreds of hotels in Paris.

Okay: upscale but not outrageously expensive...try the Maidson, on the Blvd. St-Germain. Small hotel with good-sized rooms, recently renovated, beautiful d&eacute;cor in the classic style.

Do you have an idea where in Paris you want to stay? And if you can you give us an idea of how much you want to spend you'll get some good suggestions!

Jesika...stay in the Marais area..good location..and the &quot;in&quot; place to stay these days...we just returned three weeks ago and spent our last weekend of a three week trip, in Paris. We had been there more than a dozen times but this time we stayed in the Marais at the simple but nice Hotel Duo (The Axial Beaubourg)...about $210. Right across from the Hotel De Ville area.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Central Saint-Germain a couple of years ago. In the heart of the Sorbonne area, a block south of Musee Cluny; easy walking distance to Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, Musee d'Orsay, etc. It had just undergone extensive renos; room was beautiful (classic French wallpaper, marble bathroom, elegant lampshades). As I recall, we paid E109 per night for 3 nights and received the 4th night free! (That special doesn't apply now...I've checked.) Friends from Vancouver just stayed there last month and reported a good experience, too.

My wife and I have stayed at:
1. Le Sainte Beauve
2. Pas des Calais

Were very happy with both .. not outrageoulsy expensive (?), near Metro, nice shops and restaurants. Check them out.

If you are interested in the Pas de Calais be very aware of the recent comments at Trip Advisor. There has been construction and the hotel never informed the guests. There is one former guest who posted photos as proof and it is disgusting that the hotel did not close although the work was definitely interfering with guests' visits.

We stayed in the Bassano (www.hotel-bassano.com) for 4 days, a few weeks ago. It is on rue de Bassano, about 300m from the Geroge V metro stop, just off the Champs Elys&eacute;e. It is actually in the 16th, but right on the edge of the 8th.
We paid 190.- Euro for a double room. They upgraded us, (I think this happens a lot) and we ended up with a huge room for Paris standards. Bathroom was also huge, tub was not really big enough for 2 though.
I also looked at a regular double room, and compared to many other paris hotels, they are large.
(Avoid the breakfast - at 20.- Euro per person, it is not worth it. Wonderful chinese-vietnamese restaurant around the corner)

Other hotels in other areas I would recommend are as follows (we stayed in these last year):

Hotel Moliere in the 1st, 175.- Euro for a superior room (don't take a reg double) www.clement-moliere-paris-hotel.com

Hotel Verneuil in the 7th, 200.- Euro
(again avoid the reg double - rooms are mini, superiors are fine. Make sure you ask for air con if you are there in summer) www.hotelverneuil.com/hotel.html

Hotel Select in the 5th is on Place de Sorbonne and has been recently renovated. Rooms are very modern, lots of mirrors, stainlees steel and glass.

I actually like to stay in different areas each time I go to Paris. I would suggest choosing the area where you want to stay first and then chose your hotel.

This is only jesika's fourth or fifth post on Fodors, so a little tolerance for an admittedly vague question.

Jesika, do you need this hotel for the trip you've got coming in June (mentioned on your previous post)? In that case, most of the hotels suggested here (and they all sound good) are likely to be full. Best to look at one of the online hotel booking sites--www.hotels.com, www.venere.com, and find some appealing candidates that are in your budget AND have availability, then we can give you some better insights.

If this is for some future, not yet planned trip, then you do need to give us your budget, preferred style, and type of neighborhood you'd like. Paris has an abundance of good hotels--we need more info to suggest the right fit for you.
