Our ff flight was changed and now we will be landing in Milan on New Year's day rather than Jan 2nd as originally planned. We were going to go straight to Verona and use it as a base before Venice. We already have a hotel set up both in Verona and Venice but will most likely have to change the days of one or both. An option could be to just move everything up a day and use our extra day between Venice and Rome. We were planning a few days Bologna and a day trip to Ravenna. Ferrara perhaps? Other suggestions?

Is there anywhere in Veneto that may be of special interest on New Year's day?

We had a very exciting night in Rome on New Year's Eve! It was truly one to remember, and we highly recommend it.

Plan ahead, as all restaurants require formal dinner dress and a reservation. It was a full evening dinner with only one seating on the Via del Corso. We left moments before midnight, dodging fireworks being shot off everywhere to make it to the Spanish Steps (mobbed) to ring in the New Year.

One cautionary item - The crowds were fun, but wild, throwing fireworks into the crowds and tossing champagne bottles into the fountains.

We grabbed a cab and just made it to the last half of the Pope's address for the new year.

What a night!

I don't know anything about New Year's however, my wife and I just returned from the Veneto a few weeks ago. Verona is a wonderful place to base yourselves. We visited Vicenza, Padua, Bassano Del Grappa (where we based) and Osolo. Absolutely loved the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza; the frescoes of Giotto in the Scrovegni in Padua and the mosaics in Ravenna! Bassano for its charm walking across the bridge and Osolo for the hilltop views. Verona would seem to offer the most in terms of restaurants and activities for New Year's day. It is just a great area to visit.

No, not at all.

No scaffolding that I can remember.
