New System at FCO?

We're leaving for Italy on Delta in 3 days and will fly out of Fiumicino on June 4. Now I hear that they have changed the process for checking in all US airline passengers, and it sounds horrendous! There's a new terminal 5 and I understand there are several different stops there before having to take a bus someplace or other to get on the plane.

All my collected little timesaving tips I've gleaned from others are then shot.

Does anyone have the new correct news on this? How much time must be allowed to get to your plane on time now?

I just looked it up and it looks pretty organized. I'm looking forward to using terminal 5 rather than the insanity of the older terminal.

I thought the new terminal 5 was at LHR not FCO. Is it both?? Leaving in 5 weeks.

The terminals at FCO are letters of the alphabet. Terminal C is closed for renovations, and most flights involving an America destination or point of origin are presently arriving at Terminal B. No one I know has had to take a bus to get elsewhere, and I actually found getting through Immigration much easier if anything. (I was there in the first half of April.)

Actually, Bookchick, it is Terminal 5. Look at the url I put in my last message you will see it. It does mention on the site that you will need to take a bus. Terminal 5 is a distance from the rest of the terminals.

Yes, LHR has a new terminal but so does FCO.

Hi bookchick, did you fly via Northwest? Per the website Northwest is not using Terminal 5.

Thanks for posting the URL. Let's hope it truly is an improvement. It says premium and business class passengers will have special processes -- I hope this is so because we upgraded to business class for this trip.

Does anyone know if there is a Tourist Information Office in Terminal 5? I am supposed to pick up my Roma Passes at the airport and there was one in Terminal C. Now I don't know what to do. How about ATM machines? Also have to see if the limo driver knows where to pick us up. Help! Leaving tomorrow!

I did indeed fly NWA, and things actually went much more smoothly on this flight than waiting the usual half-hour for luggage. I flew DTW-AMS, and then AMS-FCO.
