New combi ticket for Amsterdam

If you are travelling to Amsterdam, via Schiphol between now and 31 October you can buy a return for the train and one, two, three days or four days of travel on the trams and buses in and around Amsterdam (those operated by the GVB) all on one ticket.
You buy the ticket from the Holland Tourist Information office at Schiphol. Not from the train ticket machines or windows.
This is a trial period, and if it is successful it will be introduced as a permanent option.

This looks like a great deal, and one I wish had been available earlier this year when we were visiting.

Here's more info:

http://www.gvb.nl/english/travellers...velTicket.aspx

It very specifically points out that your return trip to Schiphol needn't be within the originally purchased time period (which would be very limiting for somebody who was staying for longer than 4 days).

Yet tourist Amsterdam is a surprisingly small area where some folks would rarely take a tram - at least i rarely do.

I've done it both ways: all walking and all (well, lots) tram, and liked both options. I certainly covered a lot more ground using the tram, and probably walked just as much, just not as much getting from point A to point B (which tended to take me past the same places again and again in any case).

That's more Dutch than some Americans I know have after living here for 15 years. Honestly.
The Brits are as bad so don't take it as America bashing please.
