New carry on restrictions for UK, Paris and Brussels
Just saw this on the USAirways page. Haven't heard this one before... I assume it truly is OUT of Paris and not into, yes? Anyone know?
"Passengers traveling on flights out of the UK, Brussels and Paris will only be permitted one piece of carry-on baggage."

Nothing new -- it has been that way for some time. Actually what they means is that you are allowed on one bag to go through security. After you go through security you can divide you bag into ten bags an no one cares. Think it is restriction to speed up screening.

At least for the UK, those have been the rules for many months. Not for just USAirways but for every passenger leaving from any airport. As fmpden says - the limit is for passing through security screening. You can stuff your handbag inside your carry-on and then take it back out after clearing security.

When did Paris and Brussels introduce a one piece rule?
Their governments resisted attempts to introduce such a rule across Europe, and there's been no announcement of any material change in their position. And neither ADP nor Brussels airport have issued any indication they're introducing this themselves.
US Airways is either:
- describing a policy unique to US Airways, or
- spouting nonsense
Either way, ignore them unless you're on one of their flights.

In the case of the UK it's the UK government that set the rules through security

Wasn't the EU rule for one bag through security, delayed last April, supposed to go into effect November 1? That's today. Maybe US Airways only mentioned Brussels and Paris because those are the only continental airports they fly out of.

Never heard of an upcoming EU rule on one-piece carry-on.
Only thing I found was a statement from BA's chairman from July 2007:
"The one piece of hand baggage rule has no security justification, evidenced by the fact that it is not required in the US or anywhere else in Europe,"
Source: http://news.cheapflights.co.uk/fligh...ticises-o.html
And I have been at a few EU airports during the last 4 weeks, and never seen any advance warning or information on new carry-on rules.

No. A wodge of studies and things were agreed to be come up for review about now. And, unless the bad guys look as if they're doing something really, really, serious in the next day or two, no-one's going to impose a rule change like the one US Airways have just plucked out of nowhere without weeks of pre-publicity.

YOu can't ever tell, but if you wanted to find out more, I'd call and ask them what that's all about. It says it is just carry-on rules, so sounds like it is just US Airway's own policy.
That airline has always had a lot of weird labor and baggage problems.

In a recent trip report, a traveler reported that indeed they were strictly enforcing a rule that you had to have all of your carry-on items in only one bag. Once you passed this checkpoint, you could then separate them if you wanted... However I have been researching a trip for Europe lately so I don't remember which cities or countries the trip report was for! Anyway I thought I would add my comment since somewhere someone did experience this rule. (Even to myself I don't sound very helpful, sorry about the vagueness of my reply.)
