Need route suggestions - 4 days around Connemara and?

I'm considering a bargain November trip that includes a 4 night B&B voucher. And yes, I know I need to check B&B availability first because of the season and I know the weather could be yucky.

So, for a 4 night loop that starts at the Dublin aiport and ends at the Lough Eske Castle near Donegal, I need route suggestions and suggestions of towns to stay in. Our last night is in Dublin, so I don't want to spend night 1 there. Sorry to be so vague but I've just started reading, this trip is only on sale until the 27th.

(We prefer landscapes to cities, so the 1 night in Dublin is fine with us). Several years ago during a beautiful summer visit we saw the usual southern sights, Killarney, Kilkenny, Dingle, Cliffs of Moher.

I know I want to see Connemara, and we may have some time to see the Donegal coast before we check in at the castle. I was also thinking of spending night 1 somewhere around Carrick on Shannon, because it's a shorter drive after arriving jet-lagged from California.

Do you see Kilbeggon and Tullamore on the map? Tullamore has a new distillery tour and I liked the old one. Nice little town. Two Gingers is made at Kilbeggon and there is a distillery tour there. www.kilbeggandistillery.com

www.athlone.ie is a nice village, feel bad that everyone by passes it and Moate. We have stayed in Moate two times as a stop over. P Egan is a famous little pub there. Clonmcnoise is in the vicinity also and worth a stop.

Thanks for the nice map, useful info! Sorry no interest in whiskey, just beer.

After some good advice on the Other Forum, we will spend the first night at Athlone, nights 2 and 3 at Clifden, and night 4 at Sligo. The Connemara looks lovely! Night 5 we will be near Donegal so we should have some time to explore the coast on that day.

This bargain trip doesn't give me a lot of B&Bs to choose from, but I have found some good ones in those towns. I'm reading about what we should do and see on this route, but suggestions are welcome. Long hikes will be a plus, but I realize that the weather could be a problem. We aren't religious, and sorry to sound like a snob but we've seen plenty of picturesque ruined abbeys on other trips.

That is a huge part of my interest in Ireland so no help to you. It is not like you can sit by the beach in Clifden and not sure I would want to take the ferry to any of the Islands. I guess you could just hike or do a falcon walk.
Glad you picked Athlone.
