need Paris hotel on a serious budget

I will be studying art in London and am going to go to Paris the 2nd weekend in June. Being a student, I am very low on cash, but can anyone suggest an inexpensive hotel/hostel that is near the sights and is (most importantly) safe? Thank you all so much!

Henri IV on Place Dauphine (Ile de la Cite). Another option might be the hotel within the Hotel de Dieu (a hospital, believe it or not). If you do a search here, you should find info about it.

I can recommend 1 star Hotel Floridor.
Stayed there twice. Small, comfortable, clean room with ensuite bath, small elevator. 28 place Denfert Rochereau, 14th arr. Accross the street from Denfert Roch. metro and RER station. Wonderful market street rue Daguerre (sp) around the corner. Grocery on the corner, take outs, and market food can make for cheap eats. Oh, also breakfast is included in the price..another saving and is served at a small table in your room. When I was last there 2 to 3 yrs. ago, it was less that $50 a night. I still return to rue Daguerre market even though I can now stay in 2 or 3 star hotel. Telephone 01 01 4321 35 53. No website but you can google it and get some hits.

Happy travels

Try Hotel de la Republique - www.republiquehotel.com. The rates are very good - 50-61E, single; and 60-71 E, double. I haven't personally stayed here, but my daughter, a student, and friends stayed here a couple of years ago. They thought it was great (especiallly compared to the hostels), and was close to metro, etc.

Hi,
I have actually stayed at the Republique. It is fine. The best part is it is near a great metro station where a lot of the different lines stop. The area is not fancy, but OK. The price is right.

Hi, Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Le Pavillon on rue St. Dominique? It was an inexpensive charmer years ago, but I don't know about now. J.
